Editorial Review for Ginza Japanese Restaurant – by Eric Gerber
The Scene
Taking its name from the tony shopping district in Tokyo, this Tanglewood-area restaurant is a trim, tidy affair done up in traditional mahogany and paper screens. A small but serviceable sushi bar wraps along two walls and a dozen or so tables accommodate more conventional diners. It's all as tasteful and reserved as the discreet and dutiful staff.
The Food
Not exclusively a sushi/sashimi operation, Ginza offers a wide range of Japanese fare, including heavy udon and skinny buckwheat soba dishes, most notably a delicious duck broth concoction that will tempt you to lick the bowl. Tempura treatments of various seafood and vegetables (even sweet potatoes) grace the menu and hearty chicken or beef teriyaki should please big eaters. Sushi purists will find an intriguing array (including giant clam, eel and spider crab), but don't come looking for a bargain.
