“They have good deals on certain rolls (caterpillar, california, the typical ones -- comes out to about $3 a roll) and nigiri (about $1 per piece).”
“service is sometime slow.”
Houston's worst Japanese restaurant. Miyako never fails to give you a bad experience while dining! I always say I will never return, yet everytime you would give the benefit of a doubt it's a reminder of why you should never go back. It doesn't matter which location, I have always had horrible waitstaff experience and worst of all the food. For someone who loves to go out for sushi, Miyako is a constant disappointment. I have ordered a salad and it always seems to be a soup drenched in dressing, even the crackers were stale. Some items that are shown on the menu, they never have available, and customer service doesn't even exist. When you are charged for tomatos and cucumbers for your salad, this says one thing, but when you get the worst out of what they should specialize in it's another. I never would recommend this to someone unless you purposely want to have a bad date. I am only giving a rating of one star because you have no choice to do so to publish a review.
Gave it a second chance...not good.
The place smells kinda funny, food is nasty, prices are high for what you get!
There are tons of sushi places in Houston. Miyako is probably one of the worst. First time I went for happy hour and the sushi had been prepared ahead of time and it was expensive. I went for lunch today again after almost a year, and same thing...food was horrible!
Will never go back!!
$5 Rolls!!!!.
On Sundays, Miyako has a $5 Sushi Menu. The rolls on there are so good and definitely a great value. I recommend the S&M Maki roll and the New York roll. For dessert, you can't pass on the Chocolate Godiva Liquid Cake...it was full of ooey gooey goodness.
If you plan on going with a group, it's good to know that they don't split checks. We had to go through the hassle of adding up our items individually and writing what we owe on the back of the receipt. It would've been way easier and convenient for the waitress to just do what other restaurants do...split the check!
BAD customer service.
I recently visited Miyako on Kirby with 3 of my friends. We ordered from the happy hour menu and when we got our check, we had been charged full price for one of the rolls. We asked to speak to the manager and when she came to our table, she came with attitude and ready to fight. She threatened to call the police if we didn't pay - NO ONE REFUSED TO PAY!!!! We asked for clarification on the pricing. The manager, Serena Galindo, is very rude and abrasive. She was adamant about Miyako being a "mom & pop" restaurant and said that they didn't have to follow any rules.
I have been going there for 15 years and I will definitely NOT go back!!!!!
0 Star.
I would give this place 0 stars if I had the option. When I was in college it tasted great (~12 yrs ago that's when I was introduced to sushi), but with all the new sushi restaurants popping up left and right I haven't been back for a while. My last visit will be my last.
My husband and I came out feeling sick eating their sushi, he comes from a Japanese background. The sushi was not fresh at all.
I do not recommend this place at all, there are so many other sushi restaurants out there now that is so much better. Miyako is just a chain restuarant and I forgot to mention the service was horrible.
Miyako Rocks Best Crunchy roll (mahi) in the country. Miyako is one of the japanese restaurants i compare to others. in fact when im at other Japanese restaurants. just wander why did i not just go to Miyako. they have everything that I like. service is good and food is always consistant. Keep up the good work 5 Stars
MY FAVORITE SUSHI BAR. Been coming here for years. great service, food and quality. CRUNCHY MAHI is off the chart . service is sometime slow. hopefully they will work on it. but 2009 is coming and sure they will fix it..... love this place. highly recommend
dissatisfy.
I read reviews and felt this would be a good place for my family and me to dine as we enjoy Japanese food.
We came last week on happy hour. The service was poor and it took forever to get the check. We never saw our waitress after she brought the food out. Salmon sashimi was good but their sushi rolls weren't good ---lots of rice. I would recommend this place if you love to load up on rice on your sushi rolls.
Pretty good; not the best, but certainly not the worst.
The food was tasty, the happy hour prices are good, but the service was so-so. I just heard on the radio today that they now have an extended happy hour; after 8pm, all food on the menu is 30% off. That's good news if you've been out at a club and want a little sushi before heading home.
.
One thing I find disturbing, though, is some of the unnecessarily xenophobic comments left here, especially by user "M1chelle". She says (in very poor English, I might add) "we dont have good diner at that time because we heard their manager, waitstaffs, host talking together very loud with alien's language", and she goes on to state"This is America, please be profesional ,speak with english language".
.
M1chelle, a) Miyako is a Japanese restaurant, and most of the staff are Japanese (or Asian) natives and Japanese is their first language; b) this is indeed America, and last I checked, people are FREE to speak whatever language they feel like here; and c) before you chide someone for not speaking English, you need to at least learn how to WRITE in coherent English.
One of my husbands all time Houston favorites. The atmosphere may not be what it is at some of the more chic sushi restaurants but it has the best sushi in the city. Their special rolls are incredible-especially with some sake during their happy hour. The service is usually pretty good.
