“Wonderful little restaurant, good choice of thai dishes at a very reasonable price.”

A bit off the beaten path, Thai Gourmet is worth the trip outside the loop. Ambiance is nice, with Thai music playing the background, gold-accented wall decor and a chalkboard mural depicting Thai life on the wall. Menu is extensive, but a good bet is the chicken lemongrass soup (tom kha gai), the beef with basil, and Penang beef.
I've eaten at Thai Gourmet 3xs and each time has been a bigger disappointment than the last. I have learned my lesson and won't be going back again (3 strikes). The restaurant is abnormally dark (no natural light at all) and cold. Bring a heavy jacket and prepare for a movie theater exit-like shock when you return to the light of day. The service is slow and at each visit the wait staff forgot something for a member of my party. The first time was my husband's birthday and they completely failed to put in his meal order! At my last visit they forgot an appetizer and a dessert. We also had several items we didn't order brought to us, like the staff is just wandering around with food trying to figure out who in the world this stuff goes to by asking at every table. "Are you sure no coffee here??" Yes, we are sure. It's no wonder my food was served luke warm at my last visit. It probably walked around the restaurant 5-6 xs. The food is horrible. I agree that they know their spicy, but that doesn't make up for the food tasting like cheap take-out before they add the mouth-burning ingredients. The Pad Thai is way sugary-tasting. The curry might have been ok if served at a proper temperature. Oh, and I'm reporting them to the health dept for a bout of food poisoning I had after my last visit.
Tasty and great ambience!. I must say I enjoyed this place. However, I won't go during the lunch rush again cause it gets busy!! Regardless of the rush we were treated well and promptly. Food was exceptionally great and the ambience is just as great. Good thai experience.
Great food, not so good service.
Pros: Spicy cream cheese rolls, drunken noodles, fresh mango, noodles
Cons: Customer service, Curries, and seating
They have great thai food (my favorite thai place in houston)! Their service is like most hole in the wall places - they know its good, and they don't care if your coming back.
They messed up our order 4 times in one sitting (both apps and our 2 meals). Instead of apologizing, the guy pulled out the menu and started arguing with us. When he realized he was wrong, he said that is how it would come out even though the vegetables inside your meal were not listed on the menu. No apologies.
On the other hand, their cheese rolls and noodle dishes are the best in town.
I will def go back, but they def need to up their customer service a notch!
Their mild medium and hot are quite spicy, so be careful when ordering!
Best Thai in Houston. I spent a month in Thailand and can say this is the best thai in Houston. Beware if you ask for hot they will make you wish you had brought it down a notch.
Best Thai!. can I say cheese rolls? they are the best. their fried rice, drunken noodles, and all noodle dishes are amazing! curries are okay. best Thai place ever!!!
Bad service. They were giving out discount cards at the IFEST and we decided to visit Thai Gourment as a result. The food was good but the service was horrible. After we finished our meal we left the server a decent tip and also provided the 10% off coupon. The server went to the manager and the manager informed me that I had to purchase a beer for the discount. I showed the manager where the card read "10% discount on dine in only" and nothing about the beer. She then called the owner of the restaurant at home and the owner wanted to talk with me. She changed the story and told me that that they made a mistake on printing the cards and would not honor it next time. The manager agreed to give me the discount this time. So she pulled my receipt and I was shocked to see my nationality on the receipt with exclamation marks. The server was apparently not happy with my tip and wanted to vent her frustration on the receipt. I showed this to the manager and she was sorry and gave me a 15% discount. This place is racially profiling people based on the amount of tip. So, eating at this place is anything but fun.
Amazing. Fresh ingredients and fantastic owners/ service. Kru Pong is the nicest guy you could hope to meet!
Worst food ever. Driven by at thai food craving my husband and I went there last week. My flat rice noodles were burnt and clearly reheated, the presentation and the test were terrible. My husband had an equally badly reheated rice dish that sent him to the ER to hours later for the rest of the night. To top it off they charge 1 dollar extra for EACH shrimp and they you cannot find them on the plate.
best thai food. I have eaten at dozens of thai restaurants around the country (and also in Thailand), and they have the best food which is also authentic. You must try the cheese rolls. Food is on the spicy side.
