Never Going Back.
My husband and I used to live in the neighborhood and would come by all the time. After we moved, it became more of a trip, but we went out there last night. I could not have been more disappointed.
We got there and the place was full, so we had to wait for a table. Nothing wrong with that. But after we were seated, we were virtually ignored the rest of the night. There was a waiter and a waitess in charge of 13 tables, and while it was busy when we got there, it definitely slowed to the point where we shouldn't have received the treatment we did.
Two other tables had their orders taken before someone even approached our table, and even then, it wasn't a member of the waitstaff, it was the woman who works the cash register. We didn't get silverware until the waiter dropped off my egg roll and realized we didn't have any, and even then, the trip to the counter ten feet away to retrieve some forks and napkins took almost five minutes. Everyone else in the place was checked in on, and had their drinks refilled except us. We may as well have been sitting in a black hole. I didn't leave a tip (and I ALWAYS tip), and when I tried to tell the woman at the counter why, she just brushed me off with a "Sorry," and a wave of the hand.
As for the food, it wasn't what it used to be. The dumplings were ok, and they were warm, not hot by the time they got to us. I'm really, really sad. We used to go to this place at least once a week, and I don't plan on going ever again.
It's decent, if you've never had a dumpling!. I thought this place would be promising because it was completely packed. We tried two orders of dumplings, a plate of noodles, and a tofu dish.. Everything was quite bland, and the noodles came with a sauce that was disgustingly pasty. The dumplings were soggy and severely underseasoned, with very little meat. Take that money and purchase a few packages of frozen dumpings. I guarantee that they will be much more satisfying.
The best Won Ton soup and Dumplings I have ever had.. I have been craving a dumpling fix since hurricane Ike and have tried some other places but they just don't measure up to DK. They had some damage from the storm and should open this week I can't wait. Theirs is the best won ton soup in the world. When I worked near by I ate there twice a week now I only go about once a week. Everyone I have taken there wants to go back.
Take out at its best!. The Green onion pancakes Rock! These are the best dumplings in Houston. So many choices, it drives me crazy!
My favorite dumpling place. I'm not a huge dumpling fan, but the Shrimp/Prok fried dumplings at the DK are the best. Also the green onion pancakes are always tasty. Now that I moved inside the loop I stop by for take-out all the time. My place has more atmosphere but I can't make dumplings like the DK, so why try.
Best kept secret for Dumplings in Houston. The BEST veggie and pork fried dumplings in Houston. Made fresh and wonderful sauces. Also, try the onion pancake...awesome..
Cheap and Yummy!. Great dumpling variety, vegetarian options, and SO SO CHEAP! I've been coming here for years and I love this place!
Worth a trip outside the loop!. Have eaten here for years. Definately a great place for inexpensive dumplings. The ambiance is nothing to write home about, but pleasant enough. The service can be slow, but very friendly. Nice variety of dumplings and entrees to select from.
