Tips for Office Icehouse

Editorial Review. Office professionals, students and medical workers mix with old-timers at this unassuming south Houston watering hole.

Great local icehouse. This place has changed a lot over the years and there is finally a younger crowd. The bar has a lot more energy but retains the character it always had.

History and the Making..... The Office is a quaint little watering hole with a very interesting past - ask Tom about the 13 steps to heaven. The beer is cheap and cold, the juke box is full of great tunes and competition is tough on the pool table, shuffle board and golf machine. It hosts a diverse crowd:rodeo participants, Six Flags entertainers, the Navy, Army or Marines and the locals from the medical centers and oil/chemical industries. Occasionally, the Crazy Cajun shows up to cook or 2-3 live bands break out the equipment and watch out for the fire spinners!

Second Home. The Office is a great little "out of the way" place in the middle of a big city. When you walk in the door, you're surrounded by friends who will make you forget your troubles (they get you drunk so you can't remember them). It is truly a great, laid back place to go and unwind after a hard days work. I highly recommend a visit and make up your own mund.

Great place to hang out. Undoubtedly my favorite hole-in-the-wall to drink, smoke, and play pool. The beer is cheap, $2, and the shuffle board is free. Pool is only 50 cents, but be prepared to lose if you are playing a 'regular', of which their are plenty. Crowd can be diverse on weekends, but is usually after-work regulars followed by drink til ya close regulars (myself included). Tom, the owner, is a great guy and is usually up for a game of golden tee.

where everyone knows your name. This is a small, comfy icehouse. The beer is cheap and all in bottles so you know it's fresh. Since it's an icehouse you can bring your own bottle of hard alcohol and buy what are called "set-ups." (that's the mixer) and then pour your own all night. The pool table is in good condition and there is always some decent competition. Go in enough and you will find a diverse crowd of friendly regulars that will greet you with a smile and a handshake every time.
