Editorial Review for Lyndon's Pit Bar-B-Q – by Joshua Hinsdale

In Short
Modeled after a Texas Hill Country barbecue joint, Lyndon's Pit has a farm-themed interior with vintage photographs, old Texas license plates and framed doilies. The menu offers beef brisket, chicken, sausage, pulled pork, fried catfish and shrimp gumbo. Sides include Southern-style casserole, green beans, potato salad and barbecue beans. For dessert, try the peach, blackberry and apple cobblers, vanilla ice cream and cookies. The drink menu includes Southern faves Big Red, grape soda and A&W root beer.

As a guy from Memphis where Porky's BBQ set the standard for pulled pork BBQ, Lyndon's has set the standard in Texas. I live in Friendswood and make the trip usually to buy their BBQ sauce by the gallon to make my own pulled pork at home and everyone loves it. Hell, you could put that sauce on cardboard and everyone would love it. At the restaurant, the service and food are consistently excellent. The restaurant crowd in not your typical BBQ joint crowd found in Houston. This place would probably be even more successful if it were in mid-town or the Galleria, the product is that high-end.

Pros: Best Pulled Pork I've eaten since leaving Memphis, great onion rings ans teh stuffed potatoes are deadly for a skinny guy like me

Cons: Not another location on the south side of town.

Excellent food - the ingredients are fresh and the bbq sauce is friggin' magnificent. They serve more than ample portions (remember folks - the US uses double-triple portions, remember??) and they play classic country so bring your nostalgia for Patsy and Hank. As a former resident of the area, I now drive 50 miles each way from Clear Lake just to enjoy their tasty dishes. I highly recommed you give it a try, they have something for everyone, including the fresh baked pies and cookies for after wards. (Also - they do serve beer for you thirsty folks - in addition to sodas and tea).

Pros: Inexpensive, Parking, Service

Cons: Always Busy - but that's great, right?
