In Short – Ultra-casual order-at-the-counter, self-serve restaurant for dependable Chinese fare at lunch or dinner. Menu favorites include the hot and sour soup; special fried rice with shrimp, pork and plenty of veggies; kung pao chicken; twice-cooked pork; chicken with black mushrooms and spinach; and beef with broccoli. If you're not sure what to order, the photos on the wall are an accurate representation of the authentic offerings. There's a special diet menu available, and the restaurant doesn't serve beer or alcohol.

delicious food with cheap price
by mcdoll1
At this place you can get delicious food with cheap price. It is a self served place that is why the food is cheap so you can not expect good service. Their food are not consistent but most of the time they are good. I notice that they give you less food for to go order. This place used to be visited mainly by Chinese, but lately I notice a lot of American visit there as well. Like I said for cheap and delicious Chinese food, this is the place.
- Pros: Great food and cheap price
- Cons: ambience
Excellent Taste and Fast
by BryanEvans
I have been going here for many years with my family, and everytime we go there, I get the same service and excellent taste like I expect. They have been conistent with the foods, and I LOVE the Kung Pao chicken and spicy beef.
I recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner with great taste!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: Consistent
Be careful of the Spicy Mickeymousepoop, rude cashiers, and food that has down downhill very fast.
by rhkwon
I have eaten at this restaurant since the mid 80's when the food was absolutely sensational. Ever since the mid 90's however, the food quality has gone downhill. Yes, my friends, DOWNHILL! The sauces have gotten way too commercialized to the point that all the dishes taste the same! The food just does'nt have that zip anymore.
And to top it off, recently a few months ago, we ordered a dish and as I was about to dig in, my wife had a look on her face. I said, "What's the matter?" And she points to the dish and says "Look, there's mickeymousepoop on the dish!" I would never have noticed this because mousepoop looks like black pepper but lo and behold, it was there! So I said why don't we just scoop it out and eat? No way. We took it back and thought they would give us something else or give us something on the house for being totally grossed out but no. They just took it back nonchalantly as if it happens all the time.
We will never go back ever. And I'm telling you my friends, before you eat your dish, take a close look just to make sure. With all the multitude of good Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, why eat mousepooh?
Also, the cashiers are rude as hell and $1 for another scoop of rice? Are you kidding me? That's the biggest rip off. And don't get the pickled vegetables. We had some once and it had a foul/rotten smell/taste to it. The biggest proof that this place has gone downhill? It's no longer crowded and you rarely see Asians here anymore.
- Pros: Used to taste good, now not half as good
- Cons: Crowded, rude, all the sauces taste the same, dirty
Authentic Chinese Hole-in-Wall
by garywise
A colleague from Taiwan first took me here in early 90's. Bold flavors, fresh ingredients, large servings to share and very consistent. Place is more than a little run-down (as proved by the bathrooms!), but the food is so yummy! I can't get away from vibrant twice-cooked pork (I love leeks), green beans with spicy ground pork and the garlicky pea shoots (or spinach). My wife's favorite but blander shredded chicken & snow peas has true shredded chicken breast as primary ingredient. I never feel as though the vegetables are the filler here. There are pictures up by the (sometimes curt) checkout/order window to help with selection, and the place is self-service, adding to the value. Stand-out northern Chinese food.
- Pros: Fantastic, bold flavors available here!
- Cons: Dingy, beaten-up interior, bathrooms
If you like spicy food, this is the place
by lovetocookneat
My family and I loved the ma po tofu which is extremely favorful, red hot and spicy. It is so spicy and delicious that you can't help but eat it with many bowls of rice. I also liked the green bean and pork. Water and tea are included. This is an order and pay at the counter place and they will bring the food to your table. Ambience is not fancy. Not a place to celebrate special occasions but definitely a place to have a great fulfilling lunch. Will go back there!
- Pros: authentic, very spicy
- Cons: simple ambience
