“One of the best family restaurant in Houston.”

“Other than that, great hole in the wall/ "I have no money" kind of place!”
“From the moment I add my name to the list for the "ten minute wait," I am anticipating a wonderful meal.”

I found this place rundown. The. dumplings were large, very large, and cheap. A big plateful will only set you back a few bucks.
Irressistable!.
My SO and I have a bowl where we put all our change. When the bowl starts getting full (every two months or so) it means it's time to go to LaiLai.
Set in a corner of a strip mall in west Bellaire Blvd, LaiLai is easy to miss. But you really, really want to look for it, because once you find it, you'll want to keep coming back over and over. My SO usually order one chicken plate and an order of 8 fried pork dumplings; all this comes to the whopping price of about 9 dollars, and we have plenty of leftovers. Oh and they include free tea as well. If I ever fall into hard times and become a hobo, this is where I would go to eat, truly third world prices for first rate food.
Everything I've tried in this place has been great, specially the dumplings, which are the best I've ever had. And honestly for this kind of prices, you can't afford not to go!
Community Dining. Lai Lai's is a popular place to find a great number of Rice University students, especially around the time of the start and end of terms. It offers family style dining, making coming here with groups of people both convenient and provides diners with feel of a community. The place is a quaint space only able to seat 20-25 people max, but I think that it adds to the appeal of the restaurant. It offers a variety of meat, vegetable, noodle, and rice dishes ranging from spicy to mild and from sweet to salty. Come here for good conversations, delicious food, and a change of pace.
BEST PLACE EVER...nah but its really good and cheap. where to begin....ive gone there for 4+ years. its a family owned place. you get all the green tea you can drink (sweeten it up like crazy :D ). the food is great and....plentyful. you can feed like 6+ people for around 25 bucks (if you order water) it tastes really good...having gone there regularly for such a long time i can tell you not everytime is going to be up to par but thats seriously like 2/10 times. The service is AMAZING the owners go overboard with the niceness but thats a good thing. haha.sometimes if the place isnt too crowded (really i dont know what it depends on) they give out complementary "asian bread" and/or soup. its awesome. SO with all this said go there. try the general tso or my personal favorite the sweet and sour chicken. oh right and the GIGANTIC dumplings.
Great for a tight budget. I used to love this place when I was in college, and would go extremely often with my friends. I don't know if it's the fact that now I'm used to better food or what, but the last time I went I got extremely sick I suspect from the really greasy food my stomach couldn't handle anymore. It's true, you can feed 10 people for about 30 bucks, and they are super friendly! I don't know how authentic it is, but I have liked everything I've tried on their menu. Don't go here if you are used to quality ingredients, on a diet, or if you want to impress someone. Other than that, great hole in the wall/ "I have no money" kind of place!
How to make $5 feed an army.
One of the best family restaurant in Houston. I've been going since 1987 and have rarely been disappointed.
Think CHEAP. Think LARGE PORTIONS. Think CHINESE.
best place to eat on a dime. this is one of the two resturaunts i litteraly grew up in. ive been going to lai lai since i was a baby. this place is delicous, cheap, friendly and fast service. i didnt even like chinese food until i went to this place. i recommend every houstonian go here at least once in their life and then return every other week!
20 year returning customer. Lai Lai is my favorite Chinese Restaurant in Houston. I've been returning again and again since I first had Hot and Sour soup, General Tsaos, Triple Meat Flat Fried Noodles, and of course, fried and steamed Dumplings. From the moment I add my name to the list for the "ten minute wait," I am anticipating a wonderful meal. I have never been disappointed. Great place for a Cheap Date.
buddafull. when it comes to chinese food lai lai is the best place to go. They have one of the gretest general tao's chicken in houston. Most of the dishes are under six dollars and the portions are so big that u can feed a whole batallion with twenty dollars!!! lol The owner is always friendly and the food comes out fast. Be aware that this place is about food and flavor and not about ambiance. Do not take a date here if you are looking for a fancy place.
Lai Lai Rocks.
Three words: Pork Fried Dumplings. Mix your own dipping sauce. Friendly family owned operated.
