Sprawling and distant, the city's main airplane palace is an impressive operation that keeps on growing..
Overview
Built in 1969 about 25 miles north of downtown, Houston's principal airport is a hectic but efficient operation that ranks near the top 10 in the country in commercial traffic. Five terminals--A,B,C, E and the international site D--are connected by an underground shuttle train in a two-mile loop. Bush serves as the hub for Continental, which is headquartered in Houston. The airport was renamed in 1997 for former President George Herbert Walker Bush (a Houstonian).
Features
Fast food vendors and sit-down options abound, with Bubba's Seafood Grill and Harlon's BBQ your best bets for a quick meal. Along with the usual array of newsstands, there's a luggage store, a western wear outfitter, a silver shop and a Disney outlet. The one lodging option onsite, a Marriott, has an elevated revolving restaurant (CK's) with decent food and a dazzling view.
I was stuck and it was great!. Flying from Columbus, OH to Tucson. Due to airplane problems we had to stay the night in Houston on Continental's dime. The shuttle beneath the airport is fabulous and the hotel they put us in was nothing short of luxurious. We had a alte check-in resulting in a security check but the personnel were pleasant and polite to us the whole time.
A well run, older airport. A well run airport. Security is well structured and, despite the crowds in the main terminal (C), things run very smoothly. The other, less used terminals are even easier.
Hellston. Although the signs were clear, the airport sprawls too much and it was cumbersome to get from one airline's gates/sales associates to another. We were stuck in this airport for 12 hours because of the National bankruptcy. Vincent in customer service for Continental was EXTREMELY patient and tried to help us find a way to our final destination, but was unable to in the end. Overall none of us ever want to get stuck here again and will probably never take a flight that stops here!
terrible. noise. they have been working on this for years very many delays ,layout is terrible
User friendly. I flew in and out of here recently and was satisfied with my experience. The layout on the way in was good and clearly marked. The security checkpoint was thorough but efficient. It took a little while for our luggage to arrive on the carousels from our return flight, though that was probably an airline delay and not an airport delay. The signage heading out from the baggage claim area could have been a bit better, but after that it was fine. Parking at the airport was good and cheaper than you'd expect -- less than $15 a day.
Great Airport!. Not he best..but among! Bush has one of easiest wait lines!
