Swamp Water !!
by 80sbaby04
Decided to try this place on 4/01/2012. (This was not an April fools joke). What a horrible mistake we made. The greeter seemed very depressed and unconcerned. She couldn't even muster a fake smile! I decided to order a the seafood gumbo and the frried calamari. My date chose the clackened catfish with baked potato.
The gumbo reminded me of the black liquid that covered the Louisiana coast after the BP explosion. The roux was bitter, over seasoned and doused with chives and pieces of crab shells. The calamari was basically rubber dipped in flour, fried with no seasoning at all.
My dates blackened catfish resembled pieces of coal !! After inquiring about the incinerated catfish, the waiter who seemed to be either drunk or high, explained that the red pepper seasoning applied to the fish darkens while cooking. Apparently the chef doesn't know that blackened means to give the meat a cripsy coating and not a thick layer of burnt seasoning that couldn't be scraped off with a Samurai sword. After notifying the sweaty, rat faced manager about our concerns, he simply refused to offer and form of compensation!
Please note, that I would rather not give the place any type of stars, but its necessary in order to publish my review. But its a small sacrifice if I can save anyone from experiencing what we did.
I can say that the best thing about Bayou City Seafood was the glass of water with lemon otherwise, hands down, this is the absolutely worst place to dine !!!!
Good Food

I don't totally agree with the person who wrote a review before me. You may have gone at the wrong time and got the wrong thing. I've been here many times and while I won't say their seafood is the best I've ever had, there are still really good. Try their fried catfish and shrimp next time.
- Pros: Good seafood. Large portions
- Cons: some veggetables are straight from a can ...yuk.
Great place for dispointment
by DeenaMedina
my husband and i read the reviews about this restaurant on the net in search for great crawfish and to our delight we were very convinced we found the place that would satisfy our craving. we arrived at the restaurant where we were told there would be a twenty minute wait. we were sat within time. however, after sitting there for twenty minutes at a table that was the CLOSEST to the front door and after watching half a dozen waiters walk by us without even making eye contact, it was afterall the horrible food that was being dealt to the table next to us (who sat down after we did) whom also did not have any drinks before being served their dry chalky crab cake appetizer. that was the kicker. we were out...half a block down the street to RAGIN CAJUN were we found everything we wanted in Bayou CIty but failed to find. Anyone thinking about going here just save yourself the time and disappointment and drive a half a block down the street to RAGIN CAJUN where you'll find eternal bliss...

Good food, great service

We went to Bayou City on Valentine's Day. I read great reviews about the boiled crawfish on this site, so, being from New Orleans, I had to try it for myself. We started off with the crab bisque which was absolutely divine. It was beyond delicious; I highly recommend it to everyone. We also got ten pounds of crawfish to split between the two of us. Unfortunately that was a complete disappointment when compared to New Orleans crawfish. ZERO spice, very bland, and seasoning sprinkled all over the shells. I can't understand what the point of that is. You're not eating the shells... you're eating the tail meat.
That being said, it's just the way crawfish is done in Houston. We had the same experience at Woodrow's. If this is the way you like your crawfish, Bayou City is a great choice. The soup was excellent, the service was great. However, if you are from Louisiana and like the hot and spicy crawfish that burns your mouth, this is not the place.
- Pros: Great service, good soup
- Cons: Crawfish not spicy enough for my tastes.
Delicious Seafood
by rocketpower
Visited this restaurant after several friends told me about how great the boiled crawfish are and was not dissapointed. Although it's early in the season the crawfish were delicious and spiced just right. Was so impressed with the dining experience I later in the week brought a group of co-workers for lunch and everyone raved about the lunch specials and shrimp poboys. I enjoyed the Leslie Salad with jumbo pieces of crabmeat and a cup of gumbo. The atmosphere is friendly and casual and the service was prompt and efficient.
- Pros: Excellent Seafood
