In Short
Palace Lanes has an ample 44-lane alley and fancy computer scoring (your scoring screen also shows you the best way to pick up a spare). There's league play every day, and from 6pm to 9pm on weekdays, leagues occupy every lane--casual bowlers need not show up during these times. But if absolutely necessary, the Palace's friendly cocktail lounge is good for getting one's game face on while waiting for the deafening tidal waves of league play to subside.

Went here for the first time a few months ago...nice facilities, bar area, spotless bathrooms. I too thought they violated the City of Houston smoking ban...but they are in fact in a small municipality called "Southside Place". However, if you are anywhere that acutally is in the City of Houston, and that establishment violates the smoking ban...you can report any infractions you witness to the Smoking Ordinance Enforcement Program. email: smoke.health@cityofhouston(DOT)net or phone: 713-640-4359

Best for casual nigh of beer and bowling with adult friends. If you bring the kids, do so early, and you won't need to be concerned about what the adults are doing (smoking). Lanes are perfect, but the prices fair, and the service acceptable.

I had the misfortune of going to this place because of a birthday and could not believe my eyes. They allow smoking not just in the bar area (which is banned in Houston anyway), but by the lanes! I saw this great mother smoking and blowing smoke in her kids' face too. Why is this even allowed? the Address clearly states that this is in Houston. Horrible horrible place for bowling also. The machine kept jamming up, the shoes were old and stinky, and did I mention it's hard to bowl when you're coughing?

When to Go:
If you feel like your game will be improved by late hours, you can try "Midnight Madness" every Friday and Saturday. For $20, six people can bowl for two hours.
Know Before You Go:
Holidays and summers see a significant rise in nighttime attendance when college kids pack the place, catching up with old friends over a late-night game.
