Houston >River Oaks Country Club
“The brownies and coffee; however, were wonderful!”
“The sandwich presentation, however, was "Ritz Carlton" nice.”
“We had ordered lunch for the volunteers setting up and the service was subpar.”
I saw tons of staff goofing off or standing around while we were preparing for the event. There were also plenty of managers around having meetings in the ballroom, but they weren't very helpful. One in particular had poor follow up.
We had ordered lunch for the volunteers setting up and the service was subpar. The sandwich presentation, however, was "Ritz Carlton" nice.
I was looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the dinner, but the buffet food (chicken, salad, pasta) tasted like it was from "Jason's Deli". The brownies and coffee; however, were wonderful!
The reception area of the ballroom had a mucky looking rug that guests kept tripping on, and the doors in the bar area had scuff marks all over them. Many of us were surprised at the lack of housekeeping.
The Most Unique, Elite, and well kept Golf Course In Houston. It isnt impossible to play River oaks, But finding someone that admits to being a member IS. If you do, it will be about 200 for the round and you must be playing with a reputable member. BUT, the exorbitant membership dues and guest fees are not all wasted. The greens keeper and crew do an amazing job to keep the course green and immaculate 365 days a year in Houston, Texas! Its something you must see to believe. GREEN BERMUDA GREENS IN THE SUMMER!!! IN HOUSTON!!! They have recently extended a few tee boxes, giving certain holes an added level of difficulty. This course is not for the faint of heart or even the average golfer. With 200 foot elevation changes on some holes, to slick, undulating greens, this course deserves its prestige. I will say the former pro, Dick Harmon (Brother of Tiger Woods former coach, Butch Harmon) Was the ultimate picture of a class act...I cant say as much as some of the "legacy" members occupying the halls of R.O.C.C. right now. Bruce Davidson is the current Head Pro, and he is also another class act. I highly recommend that anyone, if given the opportunity, come and play River Oaks, it will not disappoint. For its beauty is unparalleled in this city. Once you set foot on the first tee, You will realize why we love golf....then once you hit it in the first of about 300 bunkers the club has on the course, you'll realize why you hate it.
If you've been playing golf for a few years and you still haven't replaced your first divot at River Oaks Country Club, join the crowd..
This elegant course is the probably the one course most Houston golfers would love to play but haven't because it remains one of the most exclusive in the area--if not the country.
From the stately fairways to the lush but firm greens to the Old World ambience of the clubhouse, River Oaks harkens back to a bygone era. The club also features head pro Dick Harmon, at the club since 1977, and considered one of the best pros in the city
