User review by Silly_Mongoose. I recently took my wife out to Downing Street for drinks and to enjoy a cigar. After ordering drinks I went into the humidor to peruse the selections. As I approached the cigarette section for a closer look the sales associate there started to bark and admonished me for getting to close - in the rudest way! It ruined the whole night. I told our waitress hoping she would talk to management but nothing was done. Thumbs WAY down for Downing Street - to many other choices in town to have deal with that attitude.

Comfortable Spot. I have recently moved back to Houston from Atlanta, and as an African-American professional I was looking for somewhere that I would feel comfortable, find other African-American professionals and be able to enjoy a good scotch and cigar, this is the place. This is now a favorite starting point for a night out on the town. Get there early on Thursdays, they pack them in early.

More hype, than substance. A pub it is not, but you can enjoy a cigar and a scotch. Parking is limited and seating and bar lack flow, hard to move around if there is any sort of crowd, which tends to be a mix of a few regulars early, and wanabes, as evidenced by the number of partially smoked cigars that litter the ashtrays. The balance of the crowd is spill over from the bar next door. Looking for a pub, look elsewhere, looking for a cigar and a scotch, then check it out, make sure to order from the bar, or you are in for quite a wait with attitude to boot.

Mixed. Good selection of single-malts, decent selection of cigars, but wait staff not very knowledgable about their product. Tend to push the flavor of the day. Good ventilation, mixed crowd.

Downing St.. Look, this place is for CIGARS, hence CIGAR BAR. Ok, now we have that established, great atmosphere, good selection of stogies to choose, and perfect environment for a whiskey, brandy, and a good Cuban. The old pictures on the walls and the ashtray in the men's room, great details that only add to the ambiance of this establishment. I have not been to a cigar bar like this in a LONG time. Good start to guys night out. The drinks are a bit pricey, but expected for the location.

best cigar bar in town. One of the best cigar bars I have been to in all of houston. Its a great place to do some after hours networking and meet up with your politico's while smoking some stogies... dont complain about the rich sweet aroma of this place because its known to most as a classy comfy cigar bar. drinks are a bit pricey but most of the time its put on the corporate card, some politico, or whoever can shell it out.

This ain't no California bar.. If you are looking for fruity drinks and city council protections from smokey back room enviornments, stay at home. This place is for serious whiskey drinkers, cigar smokers and the women who love them. If you can't handle it, stay on the porch.

Smoky, that's for sure.... As a person who is slightly allergic to smoke, I found the atmosphere at Downing Street too much to handle. If you like smoky bars, this place is for you. For the rest of us who either retch or faint at excessive smoke, run for cover!
