Dan Wexler/Wexler Jewelry-A jewel of a Jewelry Store. Sorry I have to disagree strongly with one negative review I read earlier. I have been going to Dan Wexler for almost 14 years. While I am a sophisticated internet consumer of both services and products I make it a point to go local with really good people. I have all my watches, including 5 high end Swiss watches worth well over 2,000 dollars apiece, cleaned and serviced by him or people that he sends them to who do a good job. I have occasionally purchased modestly priced items, like necklaces, rings, and earrings from him (only 3-4) over the years and recently completed a consignment sale buying a fairly expensive item another customer asked him to sell. Dan and his staff have provided consistently the most outstanding and friendly and fair service and pricing of any retail store I have patronized in the 4 different states I have lived in over the last 40 years.

He has always been approachable about bargaining on price and/or payment terms and fair about where we ended up. He has been scrupulously honest about what he can and cannot do on repairs and provided great advice on how to deal with any jewelry problem he couldn't solve.

Another plus-on the consignment sale the item Dan offered was priced at or below any comparable sale price I could find on the internet or Craigslist and the item was in near-mint condition.

Great Place, Great People!. I've taken things to Dan Wexler over the years and couldn't find a nicer person. He's fixed everything I've managed to break, my necklaces, bracelets, even the remote to my garage. The only guy nicer to me is my husband!

Ripped Off. I have a chain that I wear everyday. It is a chain that my mother bought for me in Turkey about 8 years ago and is quite unusual. I get alot of complements on it. One of the aspects that make the chain unique is its length and where it rested on my chest. These are the comments people make when complementing it.

Recently, the clasp broke and I brought it to Wexlers to have the clasp souldered. When I brought it in, the lady behind the counter measured it at about 21 and 1/3 " without the clasp. She quoted a price of about $15 for the souder and she also recommended the clasp be replaced because the spring looked worn. Because I have alot of sentimental value for the chain, and would be devasted if I lost it I agreed.

When I went to pick up the chain I could tell as soon as she pulled it out of the envelope that it was shorter. She measured it against the ruler and it was just over 20" inches with the clasp. They had taken an entire INCH of gold off the chain without my consent! On something as small as jewelry an INCH is quite a bit. Now the chain does not hang the way it used to and is noticeably shorter on my neck. I mentioned this in the store and the lady replied with an attitude that it probably just looked different because it was over the collar. I explained that after wearing a chain everyday for 8 years, I know just how it should look.

In addition the replaced the original 18k clasp with a cheaper 14k clasp. After paying $35 for what should have been a simple repair and recieving a good dose of attitude from the saleswoman, I left feeling quite ripped off. I have often heard of people being ripped off by having diamonds switched for lower quality when having them cleaned, I never thought I my chain would be marred by someone skimming gold from a chain. I would highly recommend to anyone take your sentimental valuables elsewhere if you are having them repaired or cleaned.
