Hard to find for a reason. A relaxing, quiet, private, cozy place to have a conversation (remember those?). No ear-splitting music, pulsing dancefloor, screaming girls or drunk guys hitting on you. People come here to be together and have a nice time - together.

Truly KILLER MARTINIS. Make you come up for air.

Don't expect speedy service though - they focus on leaving you alone, not pumping up their tips.

Good as it gets. I've been going to Marfreless forever. Recently moved back to town and was thrilled to see that it is still there. I had heard that it was under new ownership and got skeered. Will they put up a sign? Change it? No way, they only made it better! Brand new couches, art, and it's CLEAN! They pour a mean cocktail and have some great wines by the glass. I read a recent review that said it was sterile-NOT. I think that he confused a bad date with a great secret hideaway that, like a fine wine, has gotten better with time! What the heck is a Marfrella? I went by myself (been back with others) and sat at the beautiful bar and met a bunch of rewally cool people. Thank you!

Sterile. I took a fairly new date here for some quiet time to have a drink. Well, it was quiet. We were a little early say around 9:30 but the place looked like a old fake leather sofa warehouse. It had maybe 5 people in there which was O.K. for privacy but I felt like we were in the waiting room to a looney farm. Not very impressive on a date

A Classic gets better. Marfreles is a Houston Landmark. Still an incognito place to sneak off to, the new owners have done a great job remodeling the interior. It is very nice. This is THE spot to go to when you want to get to know your date.

Couples Place. This place is really cool...if you have someone to go with. They play classical music, the waitresses are nice, and the drinks are average. It is bi-level with lots of cozy spots. It gets crowded quick.

Couples Only. Cozy & romantic for the "well beyond the 1st date" couple who wants nothing but a little one-on-one time and atmosphere. The staff is friendly, but deliberately unobtrusive, thank you very much. Perfect for a mid-week rendezvous, when you just want to get lost in each other.

old favorite. This was my old favorite when a college student in the late 1970's. I recently moved back from out of state - and am looking forward to another laid back visit. I agree - shhhh - don't give out secret away to too many people. My thanks to conversation I overheard about marfreless - and those who gave me the directions. sigh - thank goodness - it's still here!

SSSHHHHHH ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !. This place is awsome!! I found out about it through this site but still got lost getting there. When I called them for help they where great. Once inside the atmosphere is none like others. The place itself deserves a QUIET recognition for everthing it has to offer from the service to the comfort. Thanks Marfreless for letting me enjoy my night!!

Secret Code. You'll swear you need a secret code when you go in the door. It's as dark as a cave and the waiters all have a conspiratorial glare, as if you're going to open the wrong door and uncover an illegal poker game and a wall of prostitutes -- thus making it one of the coolest places in town to take a date or a business associate for a clandestine discussion. Don't expect to meet people here, though, as groups stick to themselves.
