What People Are Saying About Taco Milagro-Kirby Llc

In Short – Cafe Annie and Cafe Express owner Robert Del Grande wanted to create a Mexican restaurant that went far beyond Tex-Mex, utilizing earthy flavors from ingredients like mole, vibrant tomatilla, smoky chipotle and guajillo chili. For lunch, try Mexican hamburgers, stuffed with Poblano chiles and onions or spicy chorizo and cheese. Food is sometimes an afterthought to the masses who come for the top-shelf tequila bar and the promise of bright young things milling about after work.

Editor's Tips

The Extras:
Check out the live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Parking:
Parking is difficult if you arrive after 6pm on a beautiful day. If the lot out front is full, there is a garage in the back.
Where to Sit:
On crowded nights, send one member of your party to commandeer an outdoor table, while the other heads to the counter to order.
ambiance
50.0% positive
  1. My friends and I are there just about every Thursday and the ambiance is great.
  2. To me, this is a sweaty parking lot with overpriced drinks.
  3. The setting is fine if you want to sit out on the patio by the fountains or inside by the bar, but is not a 'restaurant' setting (waiters, romantic setting, etc.), which is what we were expecting.
  4. The ambience is great with live music, beautiful people, etc.
  5. Taco Milagro has inadequate parking, to put it mildly.
  6. Both times i've been there on thursday, parking was horrible and as soon as a spot opened up in the front, they put a cone there but I didn't even see any valet guys around.
drinks
70.0% positive
  1. you have to stand in line to order a drink.
  2. This is a great place to have some drinks after work with friends.
  3. They have a pretty decent Margaritas, but they tend to be on the weak side; I would just stick to the beer.
  4. bar scene with good food and nice patio
  5. The drinks are just as expensive as any where else but they have happy hour.
  6. The setting is fine if you want to sit out on the patio by the fountains or inside by the bar, but is not a 'restaurant' setting (waiters, romantic setting, etc.), which is what we were expecting.
  7. but this is a great place to mingle, eat and drink.
  8. To me, this is a sweaty parking lot with overpriced drinks.
  9. The staff allowed us to open up a tab at the bar and order our food from them as we ordered drinks.
  10. Really bad Mexican food (unusual since Robert DelGrande owns Cafe Annie & Cafe Express), Cafeteria Style service, over priced drinks, but it's a place to be "seen" when the weather is nice.
food quality
81.25% positive
  1. The food is excellent.
  2. don't know what planet some of these other reviewers are from, the food is good (not GREAT), and combine that with the excellent outdoor seating and FAST service and you've got a winner.
  3. Food was mediocre, dishes were heavy--literally, they weigh alot and I don't ever want to have to balance those plates through a crowd of "hotties" again!
  4. bar scene with good food and nice patio
  5. You can definitely taste flavorful beef and chicken in their dishes, which is a hard thing to find today.
  6. Fresh vegetarian mexican: chile rellanos that aren't too cheesy; sweet potato enchilados are so creative and they simply melt in your mouth; queso fresco tacos with onion and poblano rajas to which you can add those delicious fresh salsas; ranchero beans
  7. The food, however, was tasty, cheap (we paid $15 for two entrees.
  8. The beef fajita nachos are big so be prepared to share.
  9. love the salsa and chips.
  10. have to say although our main focus was not the food, the grilled chicken tacos paired with charro beans and rice is very tasty.
  11. Really bad Mexican food (unusual since Robert DelGrande owns Cafe Annie & Cafe Express), Cafeteria Style service, over priced drinks, but it's a place to be "seen" when the weather is nice.
  12. Solid food for a good value.

  14. tasty margaritas, good place to go after work with friends.
  15. Also, if you like to dance, the salsa and merengue music is incredible.
  16. the price is ok for the food but as a self serve restaurant and bad bad bad bad service is not worthit

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

by Janethuerta

Cheap imitation of Taco Cabana. Trashy dancers who think they can dance salsa. Worst of all, they charge me an UN AUTHORIZED CHARGE. I bought water b/c WATER IS 3$$$ and they charged me as if I had ate their nasty food. This restaurant has theifs behind the Merchant CC machine. BTW, the salsa dancing is tacky & annoying.

Decent Mexican Food

by RockingLeaf

I am not the biggest fan of Taco Milagro , but it does have some finer points that are worth mentioning.

First, DO NOT GO ON THURSDAY NIGHTS! It is not the same place as it is any other time. Something about Thursday night turn the place in to a meat market free for all. There is no parking and wall to wall "hit on me" mentality.

Any other time however, has pretty good tex mex, the margaritas are cold, and the outdoor seating make the place a great location to sit back and relax.

The laid back atmosphere and good food makes me return. But again, NOT ON THURSDAY NIGHTS.

Good happy hour spot

by monicaortiz7 , Citysearch Contributor

It was not my first time visiting Taco Milagro, but it was my first visit meeting coworkers for drinks after work. The patio is great for sitting out and having one of there ice cold frozen margaritas. I recommend the strawberry favored one, and if your brave enough try the mixed version which is strawberry and regular margarita together. I have to warn those are a tad bit stronger than just strawberry alone.

We had a fun time. The staff allowed us to open up a tab at the bar and order our food from them as we ordered drinks. I have to say although our main focus was not the food, the grilled chicken tacos paired with charro beans and rice is very tasty.

Thursday nights they have live Salsa music. Nice way to take the stress off after a long day.

  • Pros: Good Happy Hour Spot
  • Cons: Parking is limited

Live salsa band on weekends makes the tex-mex yummier

by KitchenInc , Citysearch Contributor

Taco Milagro is one of those huge tex-mex chains that Houston has to offer, and of the chains, it is probably the best. While I try to stay away from chain restaurants as much as possible, if I ever have to go to one, Taco Milagro is usually where I end up.

What really sets Taco Milagro apart from the other chains is the quality of the meats that they use. You can definitely taste flavorful beef and chicken in their dishes, which is a hard thing to find today. Their fajitas are what I've ordered every time I've gone, and while they tend to skimp on the accompaniments, they'll happily bring you out some more free of charge. They have a pretty decent Margaritas, but they tend to be on the weak side; I would just stick to the beer. The tortillas are made in house, and you taste the freshness, specially with the decadently large flour tortillas that they have. You should also go ahead and order more tortillas from the start as they are almost certainly not going to bring you enough to finish your fajitas with.

Overall, I would have to say that if you don't have the time to go exploring into the small, family owned businesses, Taco Milagro is your safest bet to satisfy your Tex-Mex cravings.
