Editorial Review for Taco Milagro – by Joshua Hinsdale

In Short
Cafe Annie and Cafe Express owner Robert Del Grande wanted to create a Mexican restaurant that went far beyond Tex-Mex, utilizing earthy flavors from ingredients like mole, vibrant tomatilla, smoky chipotle and guajillo chili. For lunch, try Mexican hamburgers, stuffed with Poblano chiles and onions or spicy chorizo and cheese. Food is sometimes an afterthought to the masses who come for the top-shelf tequila bar and the promise of bright young things milling about after work.

Parking

Parking is difficult if you arrive after 6pm on a beautiful day. If the lot out front is full, there is a garage in the back.

Where to Sit

On crowded nights, send one member of your party to commandeer an outdoor table, while the other heads to the counter to order.

Both times i've been there on thursday, parking was horrible and as soon as a spot opened up in the front, they put a cone there but I didn't even see any valet guys around. I circled around and around and even tried the sorry excuse of a parking garage and still nothing. I would have given up but I was meeting a friend and so I had to park in a couple of streets over. I really think there should be some sort of building code in place for retail businesses to have enough parking(whether paid or free) available for the amount of customers they expect. Once I finally found parking, it was just standing room both inside and outside. What enjoyment could people possibily get by standing a sun baked patio with steam pouring on you next to sweaty people? Inside was even more hot and crowded. It took me 5 minutes to get my drink and shoo away the guy who was hitting on my friend and i was out of there in 15 minutes. I've never been a fan of restaurants that turn into bars/clubs at night because almost always there is not enough parking or room inside for that and this place is no exception. They have latin music playing but I'm sure there are many better places to go for that. This place is mostly a meat market of white guys trying to pick up latin girls...and a few white girls who think they can salsa. To me, this is a sweaty parking lot with overpriced drinks.

Pros: You get to park in front of river oaks homes

Cons: no parking, overcrowded, AC doesn't work, meat market, did i mention over crowded?

Taco Milagro has inadequate parking, to put it mildly. Patrons are forced to park in other businesses' parking lots, and Houston has a thriving tow industry. Park at your own risk: your car may or may not be there when you come out of the restaurant. Additionally, the police in that area are constantly on the lookout for people to harass and give tickets to. So while you're spending a half hour circling the block looking for a parking space, BE SURE TO SIGNAL every time you turn. One cop had the nerve to accuse me of drinking, even though I hadn't even been in the club yet. What a dork! They're like vultures in that area. A joint bringing that large of a crowd could at least provide valet parking, instead of leaving its patrons at the mercy of petty cops and tow companies.

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: No parking; cops and tow truck drivers prey on patrons
