Truly like visiting someone's home. This place is very unassuming. Don't go expecting bright, shiny, or new. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Go if you have a lazy day or evening ahead of you and you want some rib-sticking Cuban food.

The mariquitas en mojo (banana chip with garlic sauce appetizer), black beans, shrimp creole, and bistec in cazuela sauce are all very good. Weekend brunch is also tempting... I had an egg dish, which was fine, but another diner ordered a breakfast steak and it smelled heavenly.

Hidden treasure!. My boyfriend and I ate here just last night. It doesnt look like much from outside and the interior isn't fancy and it isn't on the main strip. But the service is very friendly and the food very good. It reminded me of being back in Miami and some of the places I used to eat there. The banana taco was yummy. I wish now that I had ordered my own instead of sharing! You don't want to pass up the mojitos either. Who needs all of the glam and glitz when you can get great service and a very good meal at very reasonable prices. We will definitely go again.

Amazing amazing amazing. Tonight was the last night latina cafe will be open :(. I can not tell you how much it upsets me that one of the best restaurants in houston is closing due to lack of business. It has nothing to do with bad food/bad service anything of that nature. In fact the food and service is impecable. However, it is located in a residential area, and it seems to blend into the apartment complexes that surround it. I, a regular customer, accidentally pass it up all the time because it literally looks like a house. If latina cafe was just moved up a few blocks onto westheimer and hazard, i can guarantee there would not be a problem with finding customers. BRING BACK LATINA CAFE !!!

Much better.. I gave Latina Cuba a second chance a few weeks ago. The service was prompt. The lemonade was fresh and good. Although Cuban food isn't my favorite cuisine I think they did a good job.

Best little Cuban restaurant ever. I 'discovered' the Latina back in the 70's, and it has just gotten better and better. Eating there makes you feel loved! I'm serious . . . only people who truly love could possibly turn out the wonderful dishes they create. I moved away from Houston years ago, and I travel extensively, but when I'm in Houston, if I'm only going to be able to make it to one restaurant, that little Cuban restaurant on Fairview is my top pick. I wish I could be there right now! Mmmmm, I can smell the wonderful garlick-y sauce on the yucca that goes with the pork roast . . . . . and did I mention their desserts? With a cup of Cuban coffee? Heaven!

A perfect little hideaway. Since discovering Latina Cafe early this past summer...I've stopped in every month. Great food, good service..if your looking for a place that is out of the "norm" with authentic food...this is the place.

Houston's first Cuban restaurant open since '68 still pleases diners with its traditional fare.. In Short
Local institution Latina Cafe serves traditional Cuban cuisine with portion sizes to satisfy the hungriest urban vaquero. Snack on crispy plantain chips dipped in garlic sauce. Fall-apart-tender ropa vieja is one of the must-try house specials, as is bistec palomilla and tangy pollo asado. Black beans and rice are popular as a side dish or entree. The atmosphere is homey, akin to a neighbor's kitchen, and the prices make the Latina a place you could comfortably visit just as frequently.

Not eating there again.... I don't understand how this place can have somewhat good reviews. The service sucks!!! We got our drinks after they served the meals...and then no silverware...the food was eatable....I am definitely not eating there again.

Like eating at mom's place. This airy, home-style restaurant is a wonderful place to drop in, get some cuban coffee and tres leches or eat a full meal of hearty food. Great prices, good food, friendly atmosphere.
