Tasty home-style meals and down-home kitsch abound at this family-friendly restaurant chain..
In Short
Though its country decor has been modernized by sleek table lamps and wall hangings, what arrives at the glossy wood tables is nothing but down-home, classic comfort food. Crusty chicken-fried steak with white gravy, slow-cooked pot roast and meat loaf can be paired with the restaurant's namesake vegetables and come with a homemade biscuit. Sweet fruit cobblers, served in a bowl or cup with ice cream, are what Southern grandmas are famous for.
Terrible Service. The Woodlands location is horrible for service. Every time I've gone within the last 3 months I have spent 1-1/2 hours. Many very young waiters/waitresses that haven't been trained very well or just plain don't care.
Standard Fair, but nice staff. It's Black Eyed Pea, so it is pretty standard fare. Very nice/friendly staff though sets it apart from the others.
dreadful food.
We ordered chicken fried steak....couldn't tell the "steak" from the batter, generally textureless and tasteless.

foodfan. We usually visit or get take-out from the one on Wilcrest and their "mom's meatloaf" is to die for. My wife likes their stuffed potato but I alwys get that meatloaf!
