“It not only has excellent food, superior atmosphere, but the condiment bar is bar none!”
“All good---great place for kids---healthy and clean--desserts are tops too!”
“However, they do have the best herbal iced tea and the Cavetelli is wonderful.”
“Its a breath of fresh air from plain, ordinary food.”
“Their Currant Tea is very good, and about the only item on the menu that is cost proportionate.”

“OK food, horrible service”
“The quality of the food is good, but the lunch line is long and the food is overpriced.”
“love this place because it is quick and really good.”
Salads are small. I got one of the salad entrees and it wasn't bad, but I was miffed about the size of it, it wasn't cheap and it was significantly smaller than at other restaurants, only very slightly larger than a dinner salad.
American classics and oversized servings make these inviting cafes a prime pit stop for quick budget dining..
The Scene
Step up and order at the counter of Robert Del Grande's quick gourmet empire. Sit indoors at the roomy cafe tables or under the umbrellas alfresco-style. You'll be among local European trendsetters, weekday lunchers and family-friendly diners who have the option of grabbing a quick bite or lounging around and shooting the breeze.
The Food
For colorful and generous salads, roasted chicken or designer burgers in a flash, it's all deserving. Pastas in oversized bowls, such as cavatelli with broccoli, mushrooms and goat cheese served with a house salad, are well-rounded meals. The balanced Caesar with grilled chicken and the Express Salad Bowl Trio (with tuna Tuscany, chicken salad and pasta pesto) are freshly prepared standbys.
OK food, horrible service. I have gone to this location twice now. The food is alright, nothing great. The service, wow, it was horrible. Very rude people that work behind the counter. I will say they do have excellent tea, but nothing is worth going back in there to deal with the staff they have.
Cold dishes and Over Priced.
In all fairness to this restaurant which is located on West Gray, we have have been there several times to give them a fair chance to show if the discrepencies we experienced were a one time occurrence or an established pattern. We really tried giving them the benefit of the doubt . Each time we ordered the soup, salad and sandwich combo, the soup was served cold, however when brought to their attention they were nice enough to re-heat it . One uncrowded evening we went there and found several unclean tables in one section, and we were just looking for a place to sit, not to inspect or clean. Also the portions of tuna salad and/or chicken salad on the sandwich, were meeger.
The portions on the soup, salad, and sandwich combos doesnot justify the price. On the positive side their pasta dishes are tasty, yet pricey, and cool quickly, indicating that they're not warmed enough. Their Currant Tea is very good, and about the only item on the menu that is cost proportionate.Overall,... I would not recommend this restaurant..
go here if there is no other option for lunch. although this place is trendy, the food is nothing to boast about. the quality is not that great and over-priced for extremely small portions. the wine bar is probably one of it's better highlights, but even then, their wine list is limited and only offer decent wines. only go here if you are desparately hungry and if there is no other options to dine at for lunch or dinner. i try to go here sparingly.*
Beware of the Condiment Bar. I know it's so hard to resest free food but beware of the condiment bar at Cafe Express. I have witnessed some unappealing things in those jars. You could see layers of old food where they just keep piling on new product meanwhile spoiling product underneith. People were actually eating this. When it was brought to the managers attention he didn't look surprised. He didn't offer any appologis just took the jars away. I really lost my appetite after witness this. This makes me wonder wahats going on where we can't see?
Top gourmet accents anywhere.. I like the option of getting avocado and expensive gourmet foods you don't normally get when you eat out. Its a breath of fresh air from plain, ordinary food.
Fast Food to with a Flair. Good for fast food. But get ready to pay upscale prices. A reasonable value for money. A McDonalds for adults. Tipping not necessary so there is a 15% savings.
Best American Cafe in Houston.
Cafe Express inside Museum of Fine Arts Houston is the best American Cafe on Planet Earth.
Express Burger and Ice Tea is my favorite.
