“The service, the food, the atmosphere grade A. A little pricey, but worth it.”
“Just make sure that when you order the crab cakes you”
“still like the bar however for its people watching and martinis.”
“The food was sooooo good.”
“The wine selection is good, the bar is hopping and the service is ordinarily very good.”
“have a new favorite family restaurant.”
“Great food and fantastic service.”
“La Griglia is often crowded, so I'd recommend a reservation, but the food is reliably good and worth the wait.”
“It was a terrible situation for us, and they treated the problem with a total lack of understanding and a quick dessert to move us on our way.”

Although one can make a meal of the bread basket alone at La Griglia (there are pizza strips in it), I always have the Autumn Salad, and if my pants are a little loose, the Shrimp & Crab Cheesecake (recipe ala Mark Cox) is savory decadence. The dessert cart is breathtaking - the Strawberry Ricotta Cake, Coconut Cream and Key Lime Pie are all blow-your-skirt-up good!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Ive been going for years. The taste of the food, the decor and of course their complimentary delish pizzas and bread and cookies at the end of the meal really stand out as unique customer service. Its our family's birthday stop. I love their flavorful pasta dishes and ricotta cheese and strawberry cake.
I enjoy the food, the quality and the presentation it great, I really like the free pizza bread they serve, avoid weekends it is very busy there will be wait unless you sit outside. Try the veal dishes.....
Real delicious. The salad bar, the pizzas, the service and that chic and unique italian decor.
Hm.......not really....:(. Not really impressed with the food. Service was great! Mediterranean salad that I had, had no taste and it wasn?t cleaned properly. I didn?t finish it. On the other hand??creme brulee was out of this world!
Amazing Service. My wiffe and I go hear when we go to the movie at River Oaks - or when we want something like a nice pizza and a glass of wine in the bar. The good is consitently excellent in this place and it is amazing that a place so large has such attentive service. Full marks to the management and the chef - if you haven't been or have not been in a while- go back. You may find like my wife and I did that it has actually gotten better than we remembered.
Generally good, but don't get the snapper OR THE SALMON.
We've been to La Griglia numerous times over the last 10 or more years. My husband invariably orders the boar chop and has always been pleased. I usually order the salmon which is almost always good, though the size varies. However, the last time we dined there I ordered the snapper, as I had eaten salmon the day before. BIG MISTAKE! They served it with portobello mushrooms and a heavy brown sauce, which worked fine for the mushrooms but was terrible on the fish. To make matters worse, the three puny asparagus spears were burned. Maybe that's why they put the fish on top of the asparagus instead of the other way around. All in all, a very poor entree. If you go, get the boar chop, the salmon or something else on the menu, but steer clear of the snapper!
UPDATE:
Well we went back to La Griglia last night, thinking that the last disappointing meal was a fluke--it was not. This time I ordered the salmon, which I have had numerous times over the last few years. It had always been good--a nice, thick piece of beautifully grilled salmon with delicious accompaniments. What I had last night was a thin (1/2") piece of overly salted salmon with an overly cooked piece of shrimp and something they called risotto. Although I haven't been to Red Lobster in 20+ years, I would imagine this as something they would serve. Then, to top off that inedible meal, they no longer bring their complimentary Italian cookies with the check. Bottom line, when Fertitta bought La Griglia, the quality disappeared, and, from the looks of the empty tables at 8pm on a Saturday night, so did the customers.
Moms Love La Griglia.
Here is a list why it's a treat to take mom to La Griglia which has been an original neighborhood favorite even though Landry's bought them out a few years ago--
(1) The tentacle-like Italian lamps above the bar; (2) the glass mosaic tiles, (3) the Italian lessons in the restrooms, (4) the dining mural of sea monster patrons, (5) the assortment of fresh breads, (6) the neighborhood, (7) the quiet patio on the side, (8) adorable manager Brandon likes to chat with moms, (9) patrons dress up, (10) mom's cooking is not as good as La Griglia's...she could never recreate the white marscapone cake with strawberries.
i love this place.
this is our family's birthday dinner place to go. everytime ive been there, its been a great experience.
this past time, we went was my birthday in spring 09. we were just floored by the delicious bread and oven roasted pizza hot off the oven that they served us complimentarily before we ordered.
yes, i have to agree with other reviewers, even on a weekday after 8pm when the restaurant had just a few tables being served, it did take a while to get our waiter to give us a menu.... but we were not in any hurry so we didnt mind.
after dinner, they had this absolutely delicious homemade italian cookies and biscotti (complimentary as well). we ordered a delicious dessert, while most restaurants do not charge for a birthday dessert they did here, but no big deal.
I cannot wait to go there again. everything we ordered was delicious, and im extremely picky about my pastas. We had Penne la Griglia & Paglia e Fieno and a big salad. Mmmmmm....
Truly a disappointing experience!.
Our group of 8 people made a reservation for 7:30PM tonight(Saturday night) and arrived on time. We were told by the hostess that our table would be ready in 10 minutes. THIRTY minutes later, we were still not seated. It took us 3 times of going up to the desk to get seated. Then, it just got worse. We didn't get our menus until 10-20 minutes after we were seated. The WATERBOY brought us our bread basket. We waited 45 minutes just for an appetizer and one soup to come out, and we got our food 90 minutes after we sat down - only because we complained as a table several times and asked for the manager twice. Our waiter never came by to even ask how we were doing. Two tables around us ate an ENTIRE meal after being seated before us before we even got our food. The only waitstaff that checked on us all night was the waterboy - he kept our glasses full all night. To top it off, it only took the waiter TEN minutes to get us our check and clear our table after keeping us waiting all night. He never came to apologize. The only concession the manager made was giving us 4 slices of dessert(for EIGHT PEOPLE) to make up for our NINETY minute wait.
This was our first visit to La Griglia, and definitely our last. Save yourself the trouble of spending time and money for bad service and average food.
Avoid. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I do not know if they got a new cook or what. But the food is no longer good. They recently changed the menu and i asked for something off of the old menu and he said absolutely no problem. When we got our food, it was absolutely nothing like what it used to be. It was quite disgusting and the fish were so dry. Other people at our table said their food was cold and just okay. The waiters took awhile to come to our table. We probably didnt order our food until an hour after sitting there. Like I said, this used to be a favorite of mine. I dont know that I will go there again because I was so disappointed in the food that I received after expecting something that I loved.
