Cheap Beer, no women. This is accually a pretty cool place, though if your looking for women, it might not be the best place. It is mostly a working class Latino bar, with a few white collar workers splashed in here and there. It seems that is mostly a neighborhood bar, though they are pretty freindly to newcomers. They always watch the Food Network on the TV and talk about local politics, while listening to old spanish greats, like Vicinte Fernadez or Ana Gabrielle. If your looking for a place to hook up and and find a date, this might not be your place. Still, a very nice place for cheap beer.
i spent a month there one night. yikes! this place is something else, everyone needs to experience it at least once in their life. although, if all u care about is a cheap drink, this might be the place for you. i will say that its highly appropriate for a monumentally depressing milestone, such as a 30th birthday. but whatever you do, watch out for Hands McGee, he'll befriend you, then wants to squeeze the hell out of your hand every 2 minutes!
Cheap Drinks, Friendly Crowd. My husband and I don't go to bars often and decided to visit this one. We found that all kinds of people frequent this bar. The beer was cheap and we quickly made friends. We are in our 30's and had a great time. People even bought us beer throughout the night, and at 1.50 a beer, we didn't have to spend a lot. They have a very clean womens restroom, a tv, one pool table, and a jukebox which has all kinds of music. I highly recommend it for a way to start your night or a relaxed night out.
Simplicity, camaraderie, and cheap beer are the key elements of this quaint neighborhood pub..
In Short
Tall Texan Drive Inn exists without pretense. The Old West wallpaper, the stuffed amberjack hanging over the bar, a jar of pickles and sundry snacks (Cheese Nips anyone?), the wall-o-neon beer signs, the thick, dumbbell-heavy goblets--all point to the fact that this bar has been around for years, erected to serve beer, not whimsy. Blue-collar 50-somethings sit at benches next to intellectual graduate students, all smiling and enjoying cheerful conversation over a beer or two.
cheap Shiner, cheaper Lonestar. The casual eclectic style of this neighborhood bar is what makes this place a popular hangout for locals of all generations. The dive nature of Alice's Tall Texan is what makes this place appealing...especially with the cheap beer served with a large ice cold schooner every time.
Big Beer, eclectic crowd.. Neighborhood juke joint that attracts all kinds. Bad service, bad music, bad decor, but you know you love it. Very eclectic Heights crowd.
