Snow cones, aguas frescas and frito pies! oh my!.
"What is 'crema topping'?" I asked my boyfriend. "What is THAT?!"
That was a squeeze bottle of leche condensada being generously lathered atop the snow cones in front of us. Immediately I'd felt that I'd been cheated my whole life. Sure, snow cones were always glorious, but why was I deprived of this glorious topping? A plain snow cone will never be the same.
Just as a fake syrupy cone will never taste quite the same either now that I have been spoiled by Tampico's natural flavors. Their corn syrupy sweetness will never match the complexity of tamarindo on my taste buds! Mango is extra, but well worth it. I also recommend the leche, which seems to be the liquid from Tres Leches cake poured atop a snow cone. So wrong and yet, so right.
Alas, I will just have to comfort myself knowing that all sans-crema aside, at least the snow cones of my childhood often featured real snow.
