Weekender Guide to The Heights: Stop in this lovely 11th Street pastry shop for a slice of cake, a cup of coffee or the equally warm service
What I love about this place is their attitude towards their customer. They are all so friendly and attentive, they have the best customer relations ever.
Couldn't get past the customer service.
This review is for customer service only. We couldn't get past that to try any of ther baked goods.
When planning for a March 19 wedding we had decided to keep all of our business within The Heights. I called Dacapo's to inquire about cupcakes. The person I talked to on the phone was not only short with me but very dismissive. I was made to feel like I was pestering and bothering them. I understand that it's a place of business and they are always busy, but to me customer service is key.
If they were too busy at that moment to answer questions, I wouldn't have minded if they asked to call me back.
We did not do business with them. The attitude on the phone was enough for us to not even want to try them in person.
Perfect for your wedding!.
Delicious for lunch or desserts - but I'm mostly recommending Decapo's for the WEDDING services!
My wedding cake was so gorgeous and at a competitive price. We got one lemon cake and one chocolate, it is literally the best cake I've ever eaten and all my guests are STILL talking about it! I heard about it through a friend who also had it at her wedding, I remember hers as well (raspberry), it was delicious.
Best Black & White Cookie in Houston - probably the World.
The black and white cookies are AMAZING! I ordered several dozen for a party, and they were so delectable, guests were fighting over them.
My mother-in-law ordered her wedding cake from Dacapo's and it was deeeelicious, gorgeous, and reasonably priced.
Best Cake Ever. I ordered my birthday cake from Decapos and it was phanomenal. Strawberry cream cheese cake with white chocolate icing and chocolate covered strawberrys. The best cake ever!!!
Low quality ingredients.
I came here for daughter's birthday cake, mainly because of all the high ratings. I ordered the Strawberry Chocolate Delight cake. It was good but everyone in my family agreed that the frosting used for the outside was cheap and not real chocolate. I found this irritating, because the cake was $40.00, and not very big. At this price, they should use quality ingredients.
Other than that, I was satisfied with the service, but I would not order a cake from here again.
Citysearch Editorial Review. If there is one business model the Heights has perfected, it’s the homey bakery-slash-deli. With the economy and tradition best exhibited by our grandmothers, Tresa and Lisa Biggerstaff have operated their little corner bakeshop and deli for over 15 years. For that long, loyal neighbors have walked across the black and white linoleum floors to matching booths to enjoy some worthwhile calories. For lunch, the chicken salad sandwich on fresh bread will do you right but everyone saves room for dessert--lemon bars, slices of banana split cake and perfect chocolate chip cookies. The cake tops, slivers shaved off of the whole cake and made into little icing sandwiches, make it easy to try every delectable flavor.
Neighborhood bakery and lunch spot fresh with friendliness.
Places like Decapo's help me understand why Heights living is priced at such a premium. This neighborhood bakery and lunch joint does its best to make everyone feel welcome and go home full.
I was introduced to Decapo's when I received a coupon in the mail for free dessert and coffee for two - just for moving into the zip code! Expecting a simple cup of coffee and a designated piece of pie or cake to share, I headed to Decapo's on a cool January afternoon. Much to my surprise and delight, the coupon was honored for our choice of ANY two desserts AND any two coffee drinks on the menu. Thank you, 77007.
We chose a brownie pecan pie and a slice of key lime paired with cappuccinos. The pecan was decadent without the sugary slop that so many places use to cheat patrons out of pecans (Goode Co., I'm looking at you). The key lime was zesty and obviously made from fresh squeezed limes in the proper manner, no artificial green or superfluous meringue top. We left happy.
Then, several weeks later, Decapo's gave me yet another reason to love them. They gave me a free pie. This time I did a bit more work for it than a simple move: I entered a pie eating contest during 19th's National Pie Day Festival. At the time, the last thing I wanted was more pie, as I had just slopped up an entire apple from House of Pies. However, when my birthday rolled around a couple weeks later, I indulged.
I chose their wild berry pie. It was exactly as I would have made it at home during berry picking season and reminded me of the fall Maine pies I once adored during my New England living days. The berries were allowed to really shine in this pie. Not cooked down to a sugary syrup, whole, plump and beautiful raspberries, blueberries and blackberries filled the flaky crusty. Happy Birthday to me! As I walked out with the pie, one of the owners stepped out of the kitchen to congratulate me on my eating accomplishment and laughed in surprise to see that a small girl had entered the contest. She had the warm demeanor that you would want in the hands that prepare your pie.
Soon I will return to Decapo's and actually pay for something, I promise. The swarms of lunching locals chatting and munching assure me that whatever I order will be enjoyable.
Poor service, smallest $4 cappucino in town. We had high hopes for this place as we had just moved to the heights and DaCapos is a few blocks from our new place. When we received our $4 cappucinos in mugs, they were 20% beverage and 80% foam. Was this a joke? - less than an inch of cappucino in each mug - and these were not wide mugs. I approached the counter and kindly explained that the cappucinos seemed a little small, and could we please get more. The clerk began to argue with me - yes argue - and explain how she made the cappucino and how the size was justified. I asked again for more cappucino, neglecting to mention that across the street they are twice the size and cheaper. She finally returned to the table with slightly heavier drinks, but the lack of customer focus and the argumentative clerk had already made my muffin sour. I'll not be returning.
Excellent Tres Leches!!!. In looking for a bakery, I came across Dacapo's online and read the wonderful reviews so decided to give it a try. We got the Tres Leches, and it was very yummy!!! This is one of the best tres leches I've ever had.....my brother who is VERY picky about sweets even raved about it and he's demanding we get him one on his next birthday!! WIll be going back here again for future cakes....can't wait to try some of the other flavors!!
