Total rip-off. I was forewarned that the dining was an "experience" here and to expect 2-3 hours minimum. We were a party of 6 and all showed up by 7:00. At 8:15, we finally received the bread, the soup and salad course followed shortly after. At 10:00 PM we were informed that there was a slight malfunction in the kitchen and the entree' would be served shortly, 10:25 we received uncooked Salmon, rubbery chicken and refrigerator-cold pork. It was one of the worst dining experiences of my life and to top it off the owner/chef never checked on us when he received untouched entrees in the kitchen, yet charged us full price with no apologies. We were actually "held hostage" until 11:00 PM. Total rip-off!

Do they have a permit to sell this food?. Oh my GOD!!! What a rip-off! To start, the cost is $45.00 per person. What do you get for that? Tap water, bread that takes 45 minutes to get to your table!, cold dry chcken, soup out of a can and a bad attitude from an owner who drinks too much in the kitchen. Wait, did I say kitchen? I meant the garage where the stove is! To top it off, the wait staff do not speak English. I was there for a party and we were there over 4 hours. It was miserable. No one will rush anything out. And they threaten to charge you if you leave!

Best bread and cozy enviroment!. I just recently was able to visit House in the Heights for a special dinner I had with a dear friend visiting town. We were both so impressed with the wonderful homemade bread with a delicious dipping olive oil. MMMMMMM. Too bad you can't buy this in Kroger! The restaurant is a remodeled old house with separate dining tables in each "room". We loved the way it was decorated with antiques and other eclectic items. So cute, cozy and comfy. Our server was actually the owner/chef of the house and was very friendly with us. He loved to explain exactly what our dishes were made of and how they were cooked. Every course was excellent. We were there for a few hours just enjoying each other's company, sharing our own wine we brought in and savoring each new food that was brought to us. We also took a lil tour of the house and got to see the other rooms , upstairs and "backyard" which has a cute garden area and deck. The lights around the back give it a very warm feeling. This place would be so great for a special date with that special someone and I'm looking forward to going back then!

best place to have a romantic dinner for 2. although it's tucked deep in the heights, it's truly a quaint houston gem! a romantic twist to a unique dining experience. the house decors are lovely, surreal, and antique-ish ... dimly-lit with soft music crooning in the background ... feels like dining in paris ... and the ambience feels personable, allowing for a couple to share a moment or 2. the one-man show of the brilliant chef also plays host and server - adding to the unique dining experience. the only complaint i have is that the whole dining experience is quite time consuming. it takes a good 30 minutes between courses because the chef makes everything from scratch and cooks everything on the spot ... my bf and i stayed from 7pm till almost midnite waiting for our fresh dishes! but if you have the time and want a memorable date ... definitely a must to try!*

Nightmare in The Heights. I went here for a party. The food does take hours to arrive. There is a one person who prepares all the food and none of the "waiters" speak English. The food is not even good. And for $50.00 per person, I would suggest going to a much better place. This place should be closed down.

Don't waste your hard earned money on this hole in the wall. Bad food, EXTREMELY LONG WAIT FOR FOOD OF ANY KIND, Horrible service.

We had reservations for 8. One person was unable to attend. They tried to charge us for him not arriving.

The food takes hours to arrive, literally HOURS. Our reservations were for 7:00. The first course, which was bread arrived at 7:45. Our main course, a very dry chicken breast, arrived at 10:45. All this and for only $45.00 per person!

The positive reviews all sound like the same person, the owner, wrote them.

Bad food + poor service = horrible experience. The positive reviews on here must be written by the owner of the restaurant. The food is very over priced for what you get. Let me start by saying "Don't come hungry!" The wait time for the bread is over 30 minutes, no kidding.

The food is bland and boring and takes hours to be served. The most fun we had was watching the intoxicated neighbors relieve themselves in the restaurant's front yard. I would recommend this place on to my worst enemy. Two thumbs DOWN!

A Restaurant that truly serves "homemade" dishes. My wife and I easily parked across the street from the restaurant which personally I prefer over the mandatory valet parking that most upscale restaurants impose. The personality and ambiance of the house and its decor were simply wonderful and which further proves the creativity of the chef/owner. We were promptly seated in our own private room. The lighting was by mostly candlelight for a very romantic effect. There was jazz playing in the background but I will attest it was the quietest restaurant I have ever dined in. I am a fan of BYOB establishments so we brought a couple bottles of champagne and wine which were immediately chilled by the most polite/attentive waitstaff. It is always special when the chef takes the time to explain in person what was on the menu for the day and to see how everything was throughout the evening. You could immediately tell he takes great pride in his craft.

The food was outstanding. First we were served this amazing bread, straight out of the oven which had been baked with herbs and cheeses. It is served with an olive oil based dip with literally over 20 herbs and spices in it that were garden grown and freshly prepared. The soups and salads and especially the main courses all involved blending different tastes and textures together which complimented each other very well. Our only regret was not saving room for dessert.

This was the most wonderful dining experience in my book and my wife and I have been to quite a few highly regarded (and expensive!) restaurants around the world.

a wonderful experience. My wife and I had a most memorable and enjoyable evening at the reestaurant. Everything from the bread and dipping suace to the incredible desert was spectacular. The chef was amazingly attentive to our wishes and the food presentation was spectacular. A real treat and one we will revisit soon and frequently.

WOW!!! BRAVO!! WHAT A NIGHT!. WOW! Where can I start? An INCREDIBLE evening from beginning to end. What a WONDERFUL surprise to find a place in Houston where you are not rushed and made to feel at home! When my group and I arrived , we were greeted with a friendly and warm "Welcome, make yourselves at home" then shown to our table ( in our own room). Only to find a table that had every detail covered..from beautiful stemware...right down to the forks and knives. Next, the owner came in, introduced himself, then explained how everything is prepared fresh and informed me that our bread is not baked until we are here. 15 minutes later..and freshly baked homemade bread!! The loaf was bigger than my head.....AWESOME..AWESOME BREAD! I'd go back for the bread alone..nevermind the other 3 courses of Wonderful food! Had no room for dessert but had the Key Lime pie with something chocolate , still thinking about it!!! Everybody who likes going out with friends DEFINITELY should check this place out! Service was excellent and personable...and always felt comfortable. Good wine , Good friends, Good food, our own room and the whole evening.....What a GREAT time!!! THANKS...House in the Heights!!!!
