“My daughter thinks the coconut cream pie is the best ever.”
“coffee is great!”
“My food was great!”
“Though the menu isn't big, there is a decent selection of both breakfast and lunch dishes.”
“The food is great, the service is below average but the management has serious issues.”
“Grumpy matronly unsmiling hostess to greet you, slow teenager service with poor attitudes to serve you.”
My partner and I went to Java Java after church on Sunday. We were immediately seated, but afterward, it was at least 20 minutes before someone even bothered to take our order. Following our order, it was approximately 45 minutes before we received our food. I still held out hope. I figured for a wait that long, the food was going to be excellent. I was sadly mistaken. My potatoes were overcooked to the point that they didn't even taste like potatoes. They'd run out of croissants, which came with my eggs benedict, and rather than inform me and let me choose my substitution, they placed my eggs on white toast. Furthermore, my eggs weren't poached correctly at all! There was raw albumen (egg white) on my plate!!! The ham used was lunch meat (cold cut) ham. I can say the hollandaise was great, though. My partner's waffle was hard and overcooked, and her eggs, like mine, were horribly undercooked. The egg white just jiggled on the plate. I kind of think it's hard to undercook a sunny side up egg, but I was again mistaken. The mocha java was great. It was the highlight of the meal we waited over an hour to receive.
Here's the really sad part: when we got up to close out our check at the front counter, the gentleman (and I use that term very loosely) was extremely rude and unprofessional. He dared not to ask about our experience, so we let him know that we were very unhappy with the service and the food. We weren't rude at all, merely voicing our opinion so that maybe it could be corrected and other's experiences wouldn't be so bad. His response: "well you don't ever have to come back!" He then walked off, to another table, still going on about it, waving his hands in the air and making a few choice comments. He even said "and if you need to see the manager, I AM the manager" After the experience we'd had, this was totally unacceptable. We asked to see the owner.
He came out and profusely apologized. He's a very sweet man. He explained that it had been a crazy day and he sincerely apologized for his lover, "the manager".
Sad to say, we won't be going back ever again. The food we may have been able to excuse since it was such a busy day and the restaurant was packed. The unprofessionalism and the way we were treated, we will not excuse. Matt just lost 2 customers behind a lover who doesn't know how to treat people. I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Can not even. I am lost for words when it cames to customer service. You could not imagine what happened there even if I told you, but I intened to tell everyone I know and then some!!!!!
Thumbs Up. Foods great - fresh and flavorable. Coffee rocks. Service - awesome. Down to earth and ready to serve. Good sense of community (very Heights-ish where everybody knows your name.. and they're always glad you came)... See all walks of life - the young, the elder, couples, families.. Great place. If you haven't stumbled into this diamond in the rough, do so and see for yourself.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. The food is great, the service is below average but the management has serious issues. Cussing out customers, or worse, cussing out part-time employees is not a good business practice! Maybe its time for some STRESS TABS or a vacation MATT! Whatever the problem is: try not to take it out on the customers or the employees!
Fine breakfasts and fine pies.
Today was my 4th visit in about 6 weeks. The only thing I found fault with is their Hollandaise, which was like soup, but didn't taste too bad. My daughter thinks the coconut cream pie is the best ever. I also love the keylime.
Everyone loves the potatoes and the bacon is beautiful. The eggs aren't quite as fresh tasting as at the 11th St. Cafe, but they're better than average. They do an excellent job of poaching, as well. So far, I think maybe the Huevos Ranchero may be my favorite. They're different, but delicious.
The servers are great and the place is very family friendly. I'm a Grandma to be so I enjoy looking at all the pretty babies and toddlers. Plus they all seem well behaved, a miracle in itself.
Great Food, Great Service. Some friends took me here today. Though the menu isn't big, there is a decent selection of both breakfast and lunch dishes. They got our food out very quickly and came by to check on us frequently. My food was great! I will definitely be going back!
Good Food, Bad Service.
Nestled in the historic district known as the Heights, this restaurant's food is delightful. Their help stinks though. Grumpy matronly unsmiling hostess to greet you, slow teenager service with poor attitudes to serve you.
But if you can get past that, the food is tasty.
As an every-so-often visitor over the past five years, my partner and I like the owner Matt's smiling face (can't they clone him?) and cheerful demeanor.
We just wish they'd change their menu around- it's not changed since we started going there.
sooooooooo good. they made my eggs exactly the way i wanted and the reg. coffee is great!!love this place
Surprise! You're Awesome!. My boyfriend and I were dogsitting for a friend who lives behind Java Java Cafe. In the morning we decided to try it since it was right there. We both got the breakfast combo and topped the waffles off with fresh fruit. After one bite we both felt like never eating anything else but these waffles for the rest of our lives. It's that good.
great place. The only thing I miss about living in the Heights is my Java Java breakfast. Best potatoes, waffles, etc.
