Is Their Specialty Chicken, Seafood, or Chinese?.
I went for lunch, and it was pretty busy. It looks old and dirty, but don't judge a book by its cover. I saw plenty of City of Houston work trucks there picking up food, so I figured it's a Hungry Man kind of place.
One can order fried chicken, fried catfish, fried shrimp, and your typical Chinese takout fare. They have at least 70 items on their menu.
If you order from the Chinese menu, lunch includes lots of fried rice, an egg roll, and an entree...you will be really full. I tried the sesame chicken and the moo goo gai pan--both tasted average (a C- to a C). The Chinese entrees are made to order, so there is about a 10-minute wait. All Chinese lunch specials are under $6.
The cashier hustles and is in charge. I think people go there because they like her work ethic. More importantly, it's a neighborhood favorite. If you ask the 19th Street shop owners where to go eat, they will send you to Chirps.
Great Chinese Food!!!.
I have become addicted!
The food is greatly priced and you get so much for your dollar! The owners are the sweetest people ever and they treat you like family, I love Chinese food and this place is a must for a budget and for good service!!!!
Good chinese food to go. Good chinese food to go. The eggrolls and special fried rice are my favorite. Seating may be limited but, most people take food 'to go". Once I ordered food to go and drove 15 miles food was still steaming when I arrived home.
great value, handy, friendly and tasty.
ths place is GREAT. while i doubt that it's going to top anyones list of "best" in town, it's ALWAYS good to even quite good. family run (very amusing young son!) and very friendly! one of the best $5 takeout lunch specials you'll find anywhere near the heights area! (in my experience, it kicks the pants off of it's up the street neighbor "happy all cafe")
plan to take out. though they do have seating, it's boviously not trying to achieve full "dining room" functionality.
take cash to be safe. of my 6 visits, i've seen their credit card machine out of order twice.
Taking Great food to go. As I came to the restaurant, it looked like any ordinary chinese fast food joint, but as I walked in I noticed the place was run by a family. It was one of those classic mom and pop shops in a time of big franchises. I approach the counter to see an array of many things to choose from Sweet and sour shrimp to Moo goo gai pan to the classic Shrimp fried rice. I chose to have the Pork fried rice and before I can even walk away, my food was done. I took a bite and it was amazing. It had the perfect combination of seasoning and was stir fried to perfection. If any of the other entrees was half as good as the rice, I strongly recommend this place for anyone looking for affordable food with the best taste.
