“Great service, not a cookie-cutter store.”
“Friendly service and good staff”
“Excellent service and deals on all bike stuff.”
Friendly service and good staff.
I saw one of the other reviews here, and it's totally different from my experience. I bought a 29er bike from these guys a few months ago. They answered my questions, gave me a couple freebies to go with it, and were generally good all around. I can't say anything bad about my experience there, and the bike has worked out really well, too. No one ever tried the upsell routine of getting me to buy something that was a lot more than what I wanted.
Add to this the fact that West End is one of those quirky little businesses that make a neighborhood cool. There's a definite character to the place, and it's something I appreciate.
Most original shop in town. Great service, not a cookie-cutter store. Lots of unusual finds. Entry-level and high-end goodies. Close to Memorial trails and the fruit-loop
Worst Service and Repairs of ANY bike shop in Houston.
I am Captain of a MS150 team and dont take bike issues lightly.
I am a long time cyclist and ride in the MS150 every year. The MS150 Organization advises you to get a Free bike inspection before their ride each year. West End Bike Shop is the closest shop that inspects bikes. I need to get 2 bikes inspected and my rear derailleur adjusted. I call West End and they were too busy for the repairs (5-6 day wait) - so I took my bike to The Urban Bike Shop for the derailleur adjustment.
Urban Bike Shop made all the adjustments right then - Rear Derailleur is working perfect.
I go to West End and they start "inspecting my bike", which, for the headset, involves aggressively twisting and turning the handlebars back and forth and I can see that my rear derailleur cable is being pulled abnormally. After this, they test my gears and indicate that my rear derailleur is screwed up and I dont pass inspection! Which is what I had JUST had adjusted while I watched at Urban Bikes.
So, I show the West End guys the receipt for the repair i just had done and indicate that their test messed up my derailleur.
Their response is that they didnt damage anything and that I have to get out of the store.
At this point, I ask to speak to the manager, and the guy i'm speaking to is the OWNER!!
So the OWNER of the SHOP damages my bike, refuses to acknoledge the problem, and kicks me out of his store as a resolution?! After showing the receipt that the derailleur was JUST Fixed and all he says is "Get out of my store". His staff curse at me too. What kind of service is that?
I now have to go back to the first shop, get my bike fixed again, and go to another shop to get inspected.
I hope you read this and choose to go anywhere else than West End. This is not the first time I have had very poor service from the shop. I WILL NEVER USE THIS SHOP AGAIN.
Urban Bikes is great so are Bike Sport and Bike Barn on Kirby - go to these shops over West End Bikes.
Biking enthusiasts of Memorial Park find convenient nearby support and gear galore.
