Nasty bar staff!. How this place is still in business I will never know. Day time bartender ok. Night time bartenders are terrible! The hacking lady is so rude, not to mention she probably couldn't make it working at a waffle house. The burgers used to be so good, not anymore! It's a great location but its in need of a overhaul.
Rude But Tasty. All in the headline. Rude service. Tasty burgers. I agree with there food being a hangover cure.

Rude Is Not The Word.
Went there this weekend for the USA soccer match.
When we were closing out, my friend got her tab and someone (presumably the waitress) had written "BITCH" underneath her name. Now, my friend is one of the nicest, kindest people I know, so one wonders what kind of bad day the person that wrote this was having.
The owner came over, apologised and said he'd review the security tape to see who wrote it. I'm not going to hold my breath there. There was only one waitress working at the time, so it's not rocket science.
Needless to say, we won't be returning to Cahill's.
Low-key Bar with Hangover-Curing Burgers.
Finding a low-key bar on Washington can sometimes prove difficult - but Cahill's is always low-key, all of the time. So low-key, it is the only bar I've ever been to without makeup on (hey, it was Post-Ike, they had A/C, and I didn't!). It's a sports bar/dive bar/restaurant all housed in an old Victorian mansion. They have a full bar, but it's really a beer-drinking kind of place. They have a few on tap, including a couple of the local brewery, St. Arnold's, and my fave - Corona Light - is always ice cold.
For the best service, sit at the bar - the bartenders are friendly, and always ready to refill your drink. From the bar, you can see numerous TVs, so whatever your sport, you're all set. There are also several wooden tables throughout the restaurant, and a large patio with plastic tables and chairs out back. The furniture has definitely seen better days, but it kinda fits in with the "dive bar" feel.
I don't usually order burgers, but after tasting someone else's one time, that is all I ever order here. I don't even know what else is on the menu, because every time I go, everyone I'm with orders a burger. They'll make the burger however you like it - they have choices of bacon, ranch, different types of cheese, etc.; but I always get the regular “Hammerburger” burger with cheddar. The burger always comes hot off the grill, and everything melts together in your mouth - the bun is slightly sweet, and it all works together. It comes with your choice of homemade fries or onion rings. Both are delicious – onion rings are cooked perfectly crisp with the right amount of coating.
Overall, it’s a great afternoon hangout – especially after a hurricane, when they have A/C (and a working kitchen) and you don’t!
$7 top on $50 tab. I have to agree. The waiters/bartenders are not that friendly, at least when I have been there.
Since when is $7 tip on $50 decent?. I have been to Cahills on several occasions and have not had any problems at all. I think that someone who doesnt believe in tipping appropriately should definitely be called out for it, and should be embarassed to be out in public. Going out is a luxury, not a necessity, and if you cant behave yourself and dont want to tip, go to the corner store, grab a six pack, order a pizza, and sit at home by yourself.
Best Bartenders ever!. I have been going to Cahills for about 8 years now and I have never written a review. The bartenders by far are some of the best in Houston and I for one was Happy to see Johnny, Nadia and Mike all there last night. They Keep our drinks full while providing great company. Any one who tips $7 on a $55.00 tab is just plain cheap. $8.25 is only 15% and they are worth alot more. The service that Marty's bartenders give is some of the best in Houston. Thats why I will always go back, and the burgers aren't bad either.
Worst Bar Experience I've Ever Had.
*****Update on Situation*****
I've been in contact with the management of Cahill's and they are very upset about the situation and are handling it in a very appropriate manner. The individual who claimed to be the owner was just another bartender. Still an unfortunate situation, but at least they are trying to make good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is very disappointing for me to write this review, because until yesterday I thought Cahills was a good neighborhood bar. But after this one incident I don't think I'll ever step foot in the establishment again.
I was hanging out at the bar on Sat night and it was last call, I walked up to the bar ordered one last drink and asked to close out my tab. I signed my credit card receipt and went back to my table to finish up.
I hear the bartender shouting extremely loud from across the bar, "Was there a problem with the service? How can you only tip $7 on a $50 tab? We tip 20% at this bar or you don't come at all." I realize that the bartender was directing this towards me. I told him if he is going to complain about the tip, I wouldn't give him anything then. He gets right up into my face and says "What did you say to me?" So I repeated what I had said and he proceeded to kick me out of the bar and threatened to call the police.
OK, let's look at this here. A $7 tip on a $50 tab is a very acceptable tip, especially when I didn't have the bartender mix any fancy drinks, I got up from my table to retreive my drinks (nobody was bringing them out to my table) and he only poured 3 rounds of drinks. Since when did 20% become the standard for tipping, last time I checked 20% was for service above and beyond and I felt I didn't receive service of any kind.
So for a bartender to call me out publically and try to embarrass me in front of the entire bar, is UNACCEPTABLE. I demanded to talk to the manager and a very unhappy man came up to me and said he was the owner and I needed to leave immediately. So, apparently this was not just a rogue bartender acting out of line, but this type of behavior is condoned by the owner.
Just something to think about....this is not the type of place I would want to hang out at when there are many great bars in the area.
Great Day Bartender.... The young lady that works in the day time is a great bartender... I believe she's pregnant too, but that young lady will hustle! She had 7 tables all at once come in and she stayed on top of it! She had a smile the whole time and a great personalitiy! We had chkin fried chiken with mash potatoes and a salad for under $8 bucks... what a deal... Cahill's has improved so much over the past ten years I been going there. I do reccommend going in for a quick, affordable, freindly lunch....
