helpful service to bikers at all levels. The owner helped me quickly, convinced me to buy a bike pump only five dollars more but MUCH better than the one I was going to buy, and in the process educated me about what I should be looking for in bike pumps.

I am not a skinny, trendy bike snob type but just a regular person using a crummy used bike, so I was ready to be treated rudely, but the owner seems genuinely interested in all kinds of bikes and all kinds of bike owners and took the time to help me find exactly the right thing even though I was only buying a small, inexpensive item.

Also, the store dog is super cute. Will definitely go here for all my bicycle stuff from now on.

great neighborhood shop. Very friendly folks with no attitude - know Houston & Austin well, and made some good recommendations. Serviced some old bikes and made them better than new. Great!!

Easy going and knowledgeable. I've been in the place a few times and love that it's so down to earth and isn't like all the other bike shops -with the snobby attitudes or the talking down to you- I've visited in Houston (which is quite a few).

I recently went into the shop to get a back tire fixed up... it was make an horrid noise as it was bent up and would scrap the bike frame every turn. I brought it in and asked if they could take a look at it, the guy listened to me explain the problem and he got to work on it right away. Took him a few minutes and he was done with it. Super friendly process.

And here's the shocker... I asked what the labor would be and he wouldn't take any money! Too cool. He said next time I drop in to bring a six-pack of something good and that would make us even. What a shop.

Not for leisure riders. Very nice guys- nice neighborhood to ride and try the bikes, carry KHS brand bikes for commuters. Staff seem to know what works on Houston streets and park trails.

Now a lifetime member. I had had my bike stolen two months ago and started a new job. METRO is not reliable, and I have to walk a long ways to get to my job. I walked into the shop and got a nice greating and that was it; no hassle, no sneer, no looking over my shoulder. Just a hello and when I made my trip around the store they gently asked if I needed anything. The bike I had wanted for over a year but could never afford was there.

I told the guy flat out what happened and he took off 60 bucks from the sales ticket and then put it on hold for me and said i could just pay it off. he told me that i could just come in pay off an installment and when it was all done the bike was mine with any kind of maintenance I needed. After that I come to the shop frequently seeing what can they do for me. I am a novice to riding, even have a hard time figuring out the gears, but they helped me out in a time i needed and with no discomfort. I am a lifetime member.

repairs without all the snobby bike hype. I am am relieved to finally find a good old neighboorhood bike shop that believes in treating people right and not ripping people off. If you're not too familiar with the ins and outs of what makes your bicycle work not only will the guys at Houston Bicycle Co. walk you through them, but they won't try to break your bank. Watch out, however, if you're a snobby "know-it-all" who thinks that two years in the saddle makes up for the over 30 years of experience these guys have- cos if you cop an attitude with the laid back crew at Houston Bicycle Co. you'll most likely be asked to take your business elsewhere. Personally, when I didn't have a bike rack for a ride one of the guys lent me his own.

no good. This shop botched my wheel repair. I brought the bike back, asking that they really fix it, please, only to catch haughty attitude from the mechanic, too busy watching a DVD to pay attention to the work. They tell you the work will be done by a certain day, but don't meet the deadline. They also don't contact you to tell you they're running late or they're finished. The icing on the cake is they think they're cool guys, working in the Montrose, making little inside jokes and ignoring the customers. Despite the convenience of a neighborhood repair shop, you're better off nearly anywhere else.
