In Short
Nestled nicely on the Westheimer Curve, this appropriately dark and dusky Montrose night spot is known for its spirited NTN Trivia activity and the wonderful (recorded) jazz bubbling up in the background. You can't miss the mural of pop-culture icons like Lenny Bruce, Bob Dylan and Dizzy Gillespie, a holdover from the establishment's previous incarnation as live jazz venue called Dizzy's. Slackers, trendoids, trivia buffs, beer hogs and cool cats--all seem welcome and content.

A+ -- Catbirds... your neighborhood Cheers! Friendly bartenders and warm and inviting regulars greet you as you walk into this Montrose gem. It truly is a home away from home for so many people that have been frequenting for so many years. Located at Westheimer Road and Yupon Street in the Montrose area there is no better place for people watching. Any day of the week you will find a hodge podge of locals enjoying their free time with good friends and good drinks. From the professionals in their suits, to the bohemian crowd in their skinny pants and 80's inspired fashion. The third Sunday of every month you will find an incredible art show featuring extremely talented local Montrose artists, with art to sell! Enjoy daily drink specials including; Monday $2 Shiner Drafts, $5 Lone-Star and Jager Combos, Tuesday $3 Jager all day and night, Wednesday $3.5 pints of Stella Artois, and Thursday $4 pints of Arrogant Bastad. Don't forget Happy Hour 3-8pm daily; $3 well drinks, $2 domestic bottles. Also don't forget about the amazing hamburgers that come off that late night grill ran by The Mayor of Montrose, Mayor Chris Hutto, and our very own chef extraordinaire Bob! A tasty treat after a night of heavy drinking, laughing, and socializing. I invite all to enjoy this 14 year old Montrose legend!

I think it was 8 years ago I discovered Catbird's. I recall a bartender named Karl that worked there for a while. I was very pleased to see jazz music being enjoyed by everyday people, in this establishment. The owner, Barbara, is a real lady. Her husband plays the music and she mingles. (: There is a nice patio on the side and a few tables outside in front now for you smokers. If you feel a little hungry there is fresh popped corn, what a nice little touch. The bathrooms are kind of dirty, though. There is often Cartoon Network playing and this is a perfect place for trivia buffs. The very big downside to this place is how they handle credit card transactions. Twice.. I have had a tip written in over mine here. As a former server I know how great it is to receive cash tip over credit ones. Once I left a written in tip and what I received on my statement was over twice that! Another time I wrote in Cash and left a 25% cash tip in the closest tip jar to me. I even wrote in "CASH TIP" on the merchant copy. Once again.. a written in tip on a reprinted credit slip. I only take cash there, if I go. This means an extra stop for me, as the ATM machine that was once there is a thing of the past. Be careful here. I am not the only one this has happened to. I have served Catbird's staff when I waited tables at the Black-eyed Pea.. I even gathered their liquor order when I worked at SPEC's. To get treated like this there has been a very big disappointment.

This is a great hole in the wall joint. Stuck in the middle of the hustle of Montrose is this great bar that gives you an escape from it all. It has an old vintage feel...the mural of great soul and swinging R&B icons of the past really puts you in the mood for something different. The drinks are pretty cheap and very generous. The staff is AMAZING!! I have had a few Norm moments there, as they seem to have a great regular crowd there. Most people keep to their groups, but it can get really crowded on Saturdays. No food there, but you can order in or visit the many fast food joints in the area. I def. recommend this place!! I love it there.
