Great Atmosphere & Made To Feel Very Welcome.
When in Houston on family visits I always end up at Michaels Outpost for a good time. Being from across the pond and very British I am always made to feel very welcome. The regular piano evenings are always most entertaining and a good way to meet some great local guys. Over again in early October 2011 (last over in May 2011) so will certainly pay a call or two and hopefully meet up with the pianist Jerry again, what a lovely guy.
See you all soon
Piano Bar with neighborhood intimacy. What a tucked-away gem! This is a gay bar with a mature peak-hour crowd and live piano entertainment most nights of the week, then the younger crowd comes in after midnight. Extremely low-key, comfortable for gay and straight, and the best drinks at the best price in the city. Martinis, for those that can handle them in the hot-tub-sized martini glasses, rule. Piano music varies with the night; Fridays are group sing-along with the biggest crowds of the week, but other nights are always solo pianist, pianist-singer and usually with audience participation. Overall a sort of gay "Cheers" with piano in the background. You can order great take-out food from very good Mexican or Italian restaurants next door and scarf 'em down at your leisure with much better and cheaper drinks than you'd get at the restaurants. Straight girls who don't want to be hit on by mashers in straight bars also dot the place. When it's fun it's exuberant, when it's not it's friendly, comfy and cozy.
Fun Friday Pool Tournament. No longer sports a shuffleboard. Instead play on 2 simonez topped pool tables. Michael's adds $100 to the Friday night prize pool. Players ante up with $5. Play starts at 9pm. A new grand piano graces the other side of the room for entertainment and some Community song. Great fun!
This casual gay men's bar thrives on happy hour all day and part of the night..
In Short
This small, casual, mature-ish gay men's bar is a reminder of the good old days when you went to a bar to drink, dammit. If you want entertainment, watch TV. Happy hour is every day, all day, from 11 in the morning till eight at night. Efficiency freaks will appreciate Jo's strip-center location: Have a cocktail while you do your laundry in the Laundromat to the left, and pick up some sweet and sour pork for dinner from the Chinese restaurant on the right.
