Never go to this bar!. Make sure you are a fan of the teams of the owners and friends because NO ONE at this establishment has a sense of humor. I came to visit Houston for 2 weeks LOVING this bar until one bad experience where I will never come back. I come from a football loving town where most normal people enjoy the game and sport and also can have a sense of humor, including the opposing team. This is not the case here. I love the bartenders but besides that the negative presence of such unfriendly owners (and friends) made this bar a never again. I love me some dive bars, but this one is a dump. By the way Vern, Go Gators!!!!
The best sports bar in town.
Seeing is beleiving.
This is one of the best sports bars in town.
Griffs is chalk full of character.
Real Old School.
The moment you step in the door, you know this is the place.
The air is stil thick with spirit of the 94 & 95 championship Rockets Seasons.
Best Service in town.
Best Sports Fans by far
And lastly, hands down best Bar Food in Houston.
Period.
Very personal and friendly. What is best about Griff's is the personal feeling to it all. One of the owners is almost always there, which makes a big difference. It is normally a relaxed atmosphere, but the folks can get rowdy, a plus in my book - especially for Rockets games. There's lots of Texas spirit there!
There's no arguing that the Montrose warhorse has played a long-standing and prominent role in this town's beer-hoisting history..
The Scene
Whether this is, in fact, "Houston's Original Sports Tavern" (as it bills itself) is debatable, but there's no doubt that the bar is a tradition all its own. Founder Michael Griffin opened his doors the same year the Astros debuted in the Dome--1965--and it quickly became the unofficial gathering spot for supporters of that team and the town's other athletic franchises (the Oilers and basketball's pre-ABA Mavericks).
The Draw
Recruited as loyal soldiers in "Griff's Army," staid supporters were packed off in private buses to root, root, root for the home teams and drink, drink, drink for the heck of it. Some of that fervor may have faded, as a plethora of other sports bars have diluted the customer base, but you can't beat this place for continuity.
the place to go. I went to Griff's the first time for a class and loved it, kept coming back with friends, and since the semester started in January the only Tuesday night we've missed was spring break. It's one of my favorite places in Houston!
Steak it is!.
This is a wonderful little sports bar. The food is really good as well. It has the usual bar foods but it doesn't stop there. They have fire grilled steaks and a loaded potato on Tuesday nights and awesome pork chops all of the time! Not only that it's cheap!
So if you get the chance...go on a Tuesday and say steak it is!
What a night!!. I was at Griff's for the basketball game between the Rockets / Lakers. The crowd was standing room only and very loud. It seemed to be the next best thing to being at the game itself.
Don't eat the pizza. Liked the atmosphere. Great neighborhood bar. Beer was cold. Typical bar food of fried this and fried that. Burger looked like a good "greasy spoon" type that I would have liked. The pizza I order tasted identical to a grocery store bought Di'Gorno-type pie, which I really didn't care for.
9. Griffs is a great neighborhood bar that provides sports fans a great place to watch games and enjoy the interaction with a diverse group of people. It is a relief from the cold big sports bars where you can get lost just going to the restroom. The griffs bus is the absolutely best way to go to an Astros Game or Texans Game.
