My first date. This is where my partner of 4 years and I went on our first date. We have been back dozens of times since. The food, alcoholic beverages, and atmosphere are pleasant and modern. Located in the heart of the gayberhood, it is the perfect place to let down with friends or bring that special someone. The bo luc lac has always been one of my favorites. The volcano chicken is great for spice. Sping rolls are always above average - I recommend the coconut shrimp spring rolls. The chocolate martini will make you want to head straight to Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco. Mo mong, you are a dream!

what happened??. When I first discovered Mo Mong - hidden from view in the dark corner of a small shopping center - I was pleasantly suprised. The food and the service was excellent and the atmosphere was clean and modern (though I really think they should paint the place a warmer color than slate blue). This remained for the next year or so that we went there. Then, within the last two months, I have ordered ToGo at Mo Mong at least 5 times - and the food is not as good as it used to be!

The Mo Mong noodles - one of my favorites - isn't as flavorful. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken is barely there - smothered in breading. The General Tso's chicken was barely edible the last time I ordered there - the breading was so hard! The white rice has been overcooked 3 or the 5 times. I really don't think the quality should change that much when ordering ToGo. It seems the quality has declined. I guess I would say go see for yourself - it's worth a try - especially since I have been ordering out - but, I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion.

Try it.. I've been going to Mo Mong for about 5 years now, and I have only once been dissappointed in the food.

Sometimes I'll just order appetizers because they are soooo good.

The atmosphere is great. They rotate the art, and the people watching is really good. For a relatively small place, it can get loud, so don't go there for a romantic evening.

The service is generally a little slow, so keep that in mind.

Best mooshu (spelling?) chicken there is.

WHEN YOU WANT TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.... A friend from work recommended this place for years. Raved about the ambience and martinis. Hit Mo Mong before hitting the bars in the montrose area on a Saturday night. I must recommend the Mango Rolls. Absolutely amazing! Great sake list (recommend the organic rice style) and the martinis will knock you over. Well worth 7 bucks when it only takes one to get you happy! My date had the beef saigon which was fabulous. I had the curry chicken and will try something else next time (the curry was a bit much from what I'm used too). I would love to go and just try appetizers. Very imaginitive drinks and menu items!

First timer and it was great!. We just relocated back to the Houston area, our aunt lives in the Heights and took my kids to Mo Mong a few weeks ago. My 5 & 7 year old boys (who love Asian food) LOVED it, and wanted us to go back with them. Aunt took us there last weekend and it was great. I don't think I could even bother trying anyone else's spring rolls after theirs.

Asian Fusion. The menu at Mo Mong consists of various Asian influences -- so it really should not be listed as "Vietnamese". The atmosphere is what you would expect in Rice Village or downtown and it has NONE of the ambiance of a traditional Vietnamese restaurant (i.e., no buddhas or dragon decorations). They rotate the work of local artists to add to the romantic and peaceful atmosphere. If you like Sake, this is the place to go as their selection is HUGE. If you like truly delectable appetizers and entres that are unique, I recommend you try everything!!

artinasia. This is one of those restorants that u cannot compare to another one. Mo Mong is unique in it's architecture and also in it's food. Even though the main theme is vietnamese food, do not be fooled by this clasification. Mo Mong serves vietnamese food with a twist. Not exactly your grandma kind of cooking. If you are looking for something totally wild and diferent this is the place to come. Food come usually mixed with tropical fruits and undescribable flavors. The drinks here are not very good, my partner had a horrible mango martini. Mo Mong is a must try and then decide if it pleases you taste buds.

Wednesday Night!. At the bar downstairs on Wednesday nights starting at 7:00, $2 martini and vodka drinks night begins! There is a huge turn-out of all different people and I love it! The bartenders are awesome and the atmosphere is really cool. Go here!

I Heart Mo Mong. I just don't know what the last post was about. besides, if the last post went "years ago" why is he rating it NOW?? Maybe he was confused, since it was so long ago.

Mo mong is deeeee-licious! I think the waitstaff are sweet and accomodating, the bo luc lac is to die for. I have not had anything there I disliked. The bartenders shake a mean martini. And the ever-changing artwork is fabulous.

And Ric is an absolute doll.

I went years ago.... I had the Pho there. It was horrible, I swear that its the same instant Pho I ate when I was a poor college student. And my eggrolls (or were they crab balls?) were still frozen.
