“have loved Baba yaga for a long time.”
Such a lovely ambiance and great food/service with plenty of veggie options. The private jasmine room is a birthday brunch must!
Perfect!. Every time I go eat here I am pleased. The food, the service and the atmosphere are all excellent! Never fails! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston!
The most charming little place ever!. My soon to be mother in law took my fiance and I there after doing our passports and marriage license and I fell in love with the place as soon as we walked up to it!! and then the back of it totally won my heart! the food is AMAZING too! I feel like I need to take trips there just to eat there and relax. The scenery with the water and flowers and open feel is so soothing! this is my fav restraunt by far! I had the Italian Muffalata with a cold pasta and its was delicious beyond words! I totally recommened this place to anyone!!
Charming Spot. I don't get to Montrose much, but I came across this little cafe and was pleasantly surprized. The waiter was cheerful and there when I wanted him. I had a Muffalata sandwich with a cold pasta side and it was quite good. The charm of the place is how it is two or three old cotages connected with patios, walkways and water falls. It's a throwback to a more relaxed time and very comfortable
Great Vegetarian Sandwiches.
I have been eating at Baba Yega for almost 20 years.
They have the best vegetarian reuben and club sandwiches in Houston, and the potato salad is awesome. I also love the Italian cream cake, when they have it.
I couldn't give them 5 stars, however, after trying the Sunday brunch. It was pretty expensive, especially if you don't eat sausage, bacon, or sushi. I paid $24 (at the time) for a waffle and some fruit. Not worth it.
Do allow plenty of time to eat. The waitstaff tend to take their time.
Not what the hype said!. I finally got to go to Baba Yega last weekend for brunch. Yikes! The brunch buffet was uninspired and not worth the money. I prefer menu brunches but if you want a buffet brunch try Dharma Cafe on Houston Ave - MUCH better food!
Sunday Brunch INCREDIBLE!. The Sunday brunch is incredible- a bit pricey, but the food is high quality so they've got to pay for that somehow. Mimosas are CHEAP! A lovely place to go in the spring, as the courtyard is gorgeous.
Poor Quality Food. The location is this fabulous, little cozy place.{Although, the decorations inside were a bit cheap & tacky looking} The waiter was very sweet and nice. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, fries and a lemonade. The grilled chicken was BURNT, and tasted like dirty dishwater. The fries were the frozen seasoned fries you can buy at Wal-Mart. Oh, the lemonade is simply the icing on the cake. I asked "do you have lemonade?" He responded back with "let me go check and see, I don't think we do." Well, he brought me back the lemonade and said "Someone made some yesterday, so I found you some, and you only get 1 refill with the lemonade." The lemonade was $3.25!!! I will NEVER go to this place again. I figure the next time I want to waste $15, I would do better to flush it down the toilet!
Fresh, healthy food..
The service was good and they have a small patio out front that is good for nice days. The menu has a lot of variety for vegetarians and/or health conscious eaters. The guacamole and chips appetizer was a good start. The guacamole was above average, the chips and salsa were fresh too.
The rotisserie chicken was fantastic! It came with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The gumbo was very good too if you're okay with beans. It has a more authentic taste to it so start off with a cup if you're unsure. I hear most everything on the menu is good and the Sunday brunch is a must have. Definitely plan on coming back.
Still great after all of these years!. I grew up in the area and returned for a visit recently. My sister and I went back to Baba Yega's - it's easily been 15 or 20 years! It is still my favorite restaurant in town! I had the Portabella Sandwich..Yum! But everything that I have had there has been wonderful!
AWESOME FOOD!!!. The food is fantastic, the price is right, and atmosphere is unique and fun. It has a montrose feel to it, and the service is great! I've been for sunday brunch, a business lunch, and a romantic dinner, and all have been fantastic. The value is right on, and my personal favorite is Pasta night on Tuesdays. It is worth every penny, especailly if you have some hungry boys! It is great! I have been going there for the past year and a half, and will keep going!
