It's the little restaurant that grew and grew; it opened more than 30 years ago and now sprawls every which way.

LOVE the food! I dream about their Pollo Poblano

HOWEVER if you order take out always make sure they give you extra chips the size they give you is a single serving! Its the same with their guacamole! its a joke... Also have them repeat your order back to you because the woman working the phone dosent get the orders right, in english anyways. Maybe skip the take out on this place and just go in instead.

Best tacos in town. Best tacos in town. Carne guisada tacos is a must. I like the ambiance. Other than that, the rest of the menu is kind of expensive and don't expect too much from the service which is average or maybe lower than that.

nasty. Went here for a girls' night. Just a horrible experience all around. Took them 10 minutes to seat us when the place was half empty. They walked us to the very back where I almost fell on my butt after slipping on some food that spilled that no one had bothered to clean up. The waiter was sullen and rude. First thing he said to us was "what do you want?". No "hi, hello or anything". Just an attitude of "why are you here bothering me?" That enchiladas were nasty. I'm sorry, I don't like my cheese to have a spongy texture in my enchiladas. Let me tell ya'll this about me and my friends. We are always friendly to employees. Always say please and thankyou and smile. I know servers don't make much and have to put up with a lot of jerks through out their shift, but please don't take your drama out on me cause I tip very very very well.

Great Family Owned Restaurant. Me and my wife really like this Mexicana Restaurant. Well mannered staff and on top of all great food with some authentic touch.

Terrific Mexican Restaurant. Wonderful family owns this neighborhood restaurant. I remember 25+ years ago when it was a convenience store with a steam table.

Authentic touch is still there. You can sit outside under the palapa and sip your margarita.

My favorites:

caldo de res

margaritas

queso flameada

menudo on the weekends - the best in all Houston.

Arrogant manager, bad service and average food. A friend of mine asked me to have dinner at this place that was supposed to be good. BIG DISAPOINTMENT. The service was nonchalant, not client oriented at all. My friend asked for a burrito al pastor topped with chile con queso. We got extra charged one dollar for rice, one dollar for the meat and $4.25 for the chile con queso. So this mediocre plate coasted $15.50! I asked to talk to the manager just to ask him how come they charge that much for a chile con queso topping and he said it's because they pour a full portion of chile con queso. I don't really think so and if this was the case, certainly is not a fair or smart way to charge for an extra. The manager said that this restaurant is his family, but his way to treat us was not friendly and certainly so arrogant they think they can afford to lose potential customers. This shows lack of professionalism and poor perspective to appreciate the clientele.

If you decide to go anyway beware of the extra charges, they may charge you for smelling what's being cooked at the kitchen. You can get better food, better prices and better services at any taqueria in town. I won't be surprised if they close anytime soon.

Delicious food!. The service is average, and the food is very good! I always order the fidello and it is a very good portion, and it is very tasty! They have a nice outside area as well. The breakfast is very good as well.

Very rude and arrogant owners.. This place is sooo bad. I know good food and good service. I also, unfortunately, know bad. The cashier is very rude, and they seem to rest upon their reputation. I think the grand-daughter of the place is the one who told me I was lucky to enjoy their cousine. I will never be back. Never.

Where the Mexican Consulate's staff celebrates birthdays. Very clean, festive, attentive service, large portions of great Mexican food at a very good price. I have seen this place frequented by working class Mexican families to nostalgic Mexican millionaires. Everything from chicharonnes to chile relleno. Really good food and nice folks.

Not what it used to be. I've been going to La Mexicana for over 10 years and the food was always delcious and the staff always very gracious. However the last 2 times has made me want to avoid this place. It saddens me because I remember the days I would go with my family and have such a wonderful time. The fajita meat, especially for the tacos is awful, there was more fat and actually meat! I asked the waiter to change it for other tacos and he grunted something and came back with even greasier.
