IRMA, IRMA, IRMA: great for injuries and the inbetween – Most of us who enjoy massages regularly are hesitant to try someone new when you found that one masseuse that hits all the rights spots, with the right pressure, and the many other factors that keep you coming back. When I am in a new city I am definetely hesitatnt to waste money on a 'less than' massage; so often while traveling I go without.
In May I was completing a triatholon here in the Houston area, and had a back spasm the day before the event so I had no choice but to find a masseuse that could work some magic. I said a little pray and hoped for the best. Beautique set me up with Irma, and she helped reduce the spasm enough to complete the race...that and a lot of epsom salt, vinegar wraps and ice and heat, but the massage def helped... no doubt!!! Her technique is not a whimpy massage...she works around the infammation to relax the muscles around the painful area thus the rest of your back/areas follow in the spasm. Irma has the gift of massage, sure she was taught but she has a lot of natural intuition that you can't buy.
Mary Tran is the best!! – I have been going to Mary Tran for over a decade for waxing as she is the best, hands down, and I have very tricky eyebrows. I recently decided to get a facial with her and realized what i have been missing all these years! It was incredible - best i've ever had! Her fingers are strong yet gentle and she turned my dull skin into glowing. I can't wait to go back to her for another one. on top of all her talent, she is just one of the sweetest people ever. A pleasure to work with. Go see Mary Tran! You won't regret it!
bad pedicure – I went to Beautique to celebrate my 30th b-day with my sister, 2 nieces(13 & 11yrs), and best friend. It was a first for us all to go to a spa, and a bad experience. We started our day with a massage. The masseuse took her time to explain/suggest which massage I should get for my first time. All of the women were very content and relaxed with each of our masseuse.
The next service we were all getting were pedicures. The women would get a spa-1hr pedicure and the girls would each get a 30-min mani and a 30-min pedi. When I scheduled the appts, I had requested for the girls to get a mani first, so then can finish with a pedi together with the women. I made the request at the time when the appts were scheduled, when we first arrived, when we finished with the massage, when we were taken to the pedi room, when we were sat down, and one more time before the girls were sent to another room. Each time, I was told that the girls will get their manis in the same room as our pedis. WRONG ! ! ! They wanted to keep one girl with us and send the other by herself downstairs. The employee told me that she is on a schedule and can not waste any time, and will continue the mani upstairs. We talked to another employee and finally the girls were both sent downstairs to get their manis. REALLY !?! !? Then we group back together, and the the girls only received one coat of polish and their nails were not painted evenly. WTF !? !?! ? So we paid $12.50 to only have their nails polished incomplete ? !? !?! ?
I paid $50 for the "spa" pedi . . . it's just a regular pedicure. I get a real "spa" pedi at the nail shop I visit regularly and pay half. then to only get home and see that the polish is not smooth, my nails were rough where they were trimmed and my feet were still rough. We did not receive a massage on our feet or calves, just different kinds of treatments were rubbed on our feet, which did nothing. No primer was used prior to using colored polish and I had to find my own machine to place my feet under to wait and dry.
Then we also noticed that only certain customers were being offered soft drinks and received more attention. I guess their hospitality is not extended to ALL guests. A party of four 7yr olds were jumping all over the place and the staff was more attentive to them.
Would I recommend this spa to the next person?? Yeah, I don't think so.
Orange Hair – I went to Beautique to get a cut and color. After a discussion with the stylist, my one request was to not make my hair look like a carrot (I wanted a brownish auburn). While lying back in the chair to have my hair rinsed after the color had processed, I hear the stylist say "oh s%!t" and then run to the back. I got up and looked in the mirror to see that my hair was a bright orange. After many tears on my part, and several hours with another stylist to correct the color and having to cut more length off of my hair than I wanted due to the damage, they didn't even offer to discount my charges for this trip. Haven't been back since, have told everyone I know this story and would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.
Great Hair Cut! – I am very particular about how my hair is cut and have tried many stylists and salons in Houston. I got lucky one day and was scheduled with Kibi at Beautique in Rice Village. She listened to what I wanted and did exactly what I asked her to do with my hair. In fact she gave me the best cut I've had since I moved to Houston. I am still going to her 2 years later and she has never dissapointed me. If you want a great cut expecially short or shoulder length, I would highly recommend Kibi. She is awesome!
Great waxing-ask for Becka – Very busy place, had to ask a few people for directions along the way when in spa. Went to Becka who was recommended by friend for Bikini. Quick service, little pain, far better than any other experience here in Houston 10+ years. Am trying salon this month hope experience is good as well so I can get hair and services all in one visit. Will be returning to Becka
Waxing Brows, Bikini – For excellent, personal work for your eyebrows and bikini wax, ask for Raza. Very professional and competent.
Manicure "Nail Techs" Expect Big Tips or will Mistreat YOU – The manicurist's are very rude. Only friendly if you are tipping them in excess of 25%. Their manicures & pedicures are higher priced than any salon. That's fine, but the problem is the attitude of the manicurist. The owners of Beautique should train their people on not to expect big tips in this economy especially from repeat customers thare in there once a week. They are paid a % for each customer, one would think they would try to be grateful for repeat business and a modest tip. Everyone is cutting back right now, and should work together. I have been going to the same person for over 10 years once a week. I tip generously. My business is down, I want to keep going and reduced my tip from $5 dollars each time to $3-$4. I was treated so badly by this manicurist who I thought understood my situation and valued me, but NOT. She was terrible, cold and out right mean. Did not speak to me the whole session. I'm the customer, still paying, still tipping and not to mention each year at Christmas I give this person a $100.00 cash gift. I spend with manicure and pedicure each month minimum $200 per month plus tips.I won't go there anymore (at least not to her). The Beautique should train their employees on this issue. The lady at the front desk "AVEDA" is alos very pushy about tips and makes you feel uncomfortable. I understand working for tips. These nail techs are being paid a % of each customers tab and hourly and a tip.Too many hardworking manicurists and salons out there that appreciate long-term paying customers.
Ok Brazilian – I went to Beautique for a Brazilian wax and it was ok. The place is huge, and I had never been there before, but the receptionist downstairs brought me up to the second floor to another receptionist. That receptionist then pointed me in the right direction. Unfortunately, there is no nice waiting area. I was seated at a small glass table with 4 chairs, the other three being occupied by another guest and her two very small children. There were only a couple of outdated magazines and no couches, not to mention we weren't offered any water or anything. The Brazilian was very quick, probably about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, she was absolutely silent! I kept trying to chatter about anything at all to keep my mind off of the pain, but all I got out of her were one-word remarks. I knew she was rushing because there was someone else waiting for her, but still, she could have talked with me just a bit. The service was definitely bare-minimum, but they do charge about $20 less than many other area salons. I don't want to mention the girl's name here, because perhaps she was just having a bad/hurried day, but I will definitely request someone else in the future.
Worst Brazillian Ever – I have been going to another salon in Houston and opted to try Beautique because they charge $30 less and Rice Village is super close to my house. I walked in as a new customer and normally people are showing you around and where to go etc. Not this place! I felt like I was bothering them to navigate through the enormous place. I went to 3 different receptionists, all of which pointed to the right direction rather than showing me. They all seemed miserable. Then I got to wax area where Jennifer I think , looks like courtney love, walked in and said come on back. She said "drop trow im gonna see it anyway" I was never asked if this was my first time. If it wouldve been my first I wouldve been scarred for life. The wax room itself was scary. It was honey wax with strips. I have always been waxed with blue hard wax. She pulled my legs apart in a way that I felt violated. She started and was done in under 5 minutes....I was screaming out loud bleeding and in shock and she would almost scream at me to relax my legs that were shiverring from pain and she forced my legs to go back to where she wanted them all the while screaming relax. I was afraid when I got done and looked down and my area was bleeding a lot. She hands me a paper towel and walked out. Everyday forward I have had some major skin zit/bunp/rash down there. I am ebarrased for my hubby to see it it looks so bad. I will never come back here. You will feel like you have enetered the cattle call. and leave feeling violated, Stay Away...unless you dont care how butchered your lady area is...I am going back to Wild on Wax who charges more but have never left my lady part in such bad shape, They are so sweet over there and i dont get zits down there like the ones Beautique gave me
