“The variety is amazing, and you can always find a piece of unique jewelry or art.”
interesting stuff, really MEAN lady.
We went to the Village with our three children. We love the shops there and we wanted to see what was new at the Blue Hand. Within 2 minutes of entering, the lady followed us to the middle room and made my daughter feel terrible for looking at a small decorative item. I don't know if she thought we couldn't afford the item or what, but my children were behaving well and not loud or disruptive.
We were definitely unwanted, so we left. As we left, we thanked her (as we teach our children to mind their manners), and she looked at us and turned around to her counter.
Certainly won't go back.
Easily a world class shop.
I cannot recommend this store enough. The mixture of class and unique selection of merchandise grants a vision
that can hardly be seen without sharing the taste of the Blue Hand.
Mean and Nasty shopkeepers. I was parked for 1.5 minutes in their driveway. I had pulled over to keep from texting and driving. I was told to leave immediately. I am not sure how they stay in business as the place was empty. Parking holds 4 cars at most. AND now they are running potential customers away. What a great strategy for long term growth in a recession. Maybe they were taking something that altered reality?
Eclectic & Unique Gifts.
I have been shopping here for over 10 years and I would recommend that anyone who wants to enjoy shopping for a gift as much as one enjoys giving a gift this is the place to be.
The variety is amazing, and you can always find a piece of unique jewelry or art.
This Rice Village house is a place you just have to see to understand.
So even if you live out in the suburbs you should make the drive and enjoy some time browsing in this
little gem !
Admirably offbeat Village-area gift shop can keep everyone from grandma to teens happy..
The Scene
A block from the chain store-filled Village shopping center, Blue Hand is a world away when it comes to atmosphere. Funky and unpolished, it's the place to go for the recipient on your gift list who prefers the unpredictable. The diversity of options ensures that you'll find treats for everyone from your teenage cousin (beaded curtain printed with Klimt's "The Kiss," perhaps?) to your Grandma (selection of glass perfume bottles?) in one odd, but satisfying stop.
The Goods
"Universal. Fun. Eclectic. This is what we are about," declares the sign outside, and a perusal of this Rice University-area gift shop confirms its veracity. The shop is jammed full of artifacts that hail from around the world, from Mexico to Africa and back again. Clothing, beaded and silver jewelry, home decor, candles, bongo drums, wind chimes, feng shui talismans and many more surprises can be found.
