This laid-back bar is good for groups and parties. Dig the day of the dead vibe.
Trendy place. Crowded but has the best frozen screwdrivers! Cool atmosphere, pretty people frequent this place. Good location.
Don't kiss up to the bouncer!!!. Tried to go to Volcano for a friend's birthday this past Saturday. Couldn't enter due to someone having an expired license, no joke about 15 of us headed out cause the stupid bouncer wouldn't let him in. (they lost about $400 in sales) Seriously folks, this is the worst place to go after dinner!!! Management is very rude especially one particular bouncer (not that he's management!). Regardless,he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed!!! I guess he realized his future as a rent a cop is basically no future at all! Beware, if you don't show your ID properly at a certain angle, he will go after you and try to start a fight with you!!! Can not believe Volcano hires rude rent a bouncers whose IQ is a negative! Go to Kay's across the street, it's a divey bar but has lots of character!!!
Laid-back vibe and a highly praised jukebox headline a long list of reasons to go with the flow..
In Short
Craving a martini with relaxed after-work conversation? Or a lively weekend mix of students, dancing and hanging on the patio? Volcano has both. A dozen draft beers, wine and martinis satisfy most tastes, but this spot really packs them in with its frozen screwdriver and specialty drinks. Owner Pete Mitchell personally selects the bar's jukebox contents, an eclectic mix of everything, like vintage Kinks, Tribe Called Quest and blues veteran Little Joe Washington.
Great for those who don't drink that much as well as those who do!!! Everyone can have fun here!!!.
We went for a friend's Birthday Celebration, and it was FUN!!! Great uncommon bar food! I'm not a big drinker, So I was excited to see drinks that I could sip on, Like the Hot CoccoLoco; hot chocolate with Kalua, some cocco rum, AND homemade whipping cream to top it off! My husband, who is the partier of our family, had a great time with their specialty drinks too!!!! The selection of tequila, scotch, and wines appeased everyone at the party (even the restauranteur whose birthday it was)!!!
All in all, the volcano has a lively atmosphere, great staff, interesting drinks!
We loved it and will now become regulars!!
Volcano. Volcano is a great place to hang! Great music, great staff and the best drinks in town. They use all freshly squeezed juices in their specialty drinks and the Frozen Screwdrivers are awesome. They also have the best Roast Beef Sandwich you'll ever find with a chimichuray sauce that is to die for. There's a good diversity of clientele from the 20 somethings to the 40 somethings anyone can have a good time here.
User review by toddjernigan. I lived in Houston for 5 years and moved to the big apple 4 years ago. Many of my fondest memories were at the Volcano. Pete has taken a neighborhood bar and added a feel that attracts everyone. Some of my best friends are people I met at the volcano. At any given point you could find a down town exec, frat boy, and construction worker socializing together, or playing pool against each other. Something about that bar could break down social walls. I only wish Pete would consider bringing that same atmosphere and the frozen screwdrivers to the big apple.
Not a bad bar, but needs some work. I read the reviews about this bar and wanted to give my own. I have been to Volcano on many occasions. Oppresive bouncers, not to me. I get a friendly hello and a handshake each time I show up. I like those guys. I prefer to go when it is not so crouded, but it is still fun when full. Full it does get, but there is lots of good atmosphere and eye candy to be enjoyed. The staff seems pretty stable, and it's nice to be recognized. The girls can be ruthless with bad tippers, even thought they seem to think 15 percent is horrid. The waistaff is memorable. One is full of attitude in a good way, and another that always seems to be crying. It worth a visit, and another, and another.
The Bouncers are doing there job people. Yes it is a bit of a meatmarket. Yeah there are some fratboys. But come on, why pick on the bouncers. Those guys are doing their job. If you don't bring an ID, or it is way expired, or you show you probation ID for DWI, then you aren't going toget in. Those are the breaks, kid. Live with it.
Quite frankly terrible. The reviews which recommend this bar are quite frankly misleading. This bar is terrible, over-priced and full of drunk frat boys. The staff are rude and the bouncers are probably ex-huntsville inmates. Avoid at all costs, especially if you don't want to turn up the next day at work with an injury due to over zealous door staff. They charge a minimum of $10.00 on credit cards, so forget about popping after work for a quick one! Not very romantic at all and best left alone. Apparently used to be the place to go, now the place to avoid...avoid...avoid...avoid...PLEASE!
Horrible service. This place is overpriced and totally not worth it. The waitstaff/bartenders are rude and take forever to get your drink/food. I won't be going back any time soon.
