The Scene
More "Houston" than Houston itself, this self-described hole-in-the-wall is a haven for regular Joe's and low-maintenance gals. Antique beer ads accumulated since the bar's opening in 1939 adorn the walls and ceilings. A smattering of tables fills the front room while the rear of the bar allows for bigger crowds to gather. The outdoor beer garden provides even more room to relax.
The Draw
While only beer and wine are served, they allow patrons to bring their own liquor. Leave the shot glasses at home though; they have plenty here. On Sundays and Mondays happy hour lasts all day -- $2 domestic long-necks and $5 pitchers. Local music hero John Evans strums his acoustic country and honky-tonk ballads every Wednesday night.

We love Kay's. Small bar with pool tables and a Texas shaped table in the middle. Great bartenders. Really good late night pizza.

I go to Kay's. It's always a good time because that's where my go. However, this is the dirtiest place I've ever been in. There is a cake of dirty (literally) on every light fixture and the ceiling is this greenish-brown. It's the foamy ceiling so I'm not sure if it's years of cigarette smoke or mold. We all have sneezing fits and then are clogged and congested for 2-3 days afterward. I has to be a health hazard. Where is the health inspector? Either way, it's disgusting. I try not to pay too much attention to the atmosphere when I'm there. The place smells horrible too. I'm sure it's years of cigarette and dirt but it's seeped into every surface and will probably always smell. I go home and take off my clothes in the laundry room. If I take them off in the my closet and put them in the hamper, my whole closet (including my clean clothes) stink. Then there's the time I was in the bathroom (don't get me started) and the biggest r0ach I've ever seen crawled across my foot. I was in flip flops and still gag at the thought. And to top it off, they serve food. The pizza is actually great but the thought of what's in the kitchen makes me cringe and certainly curbs my appetite. What a great diet tool. This place should close for a week for professional cleaners to come in. Or, since their regulars are so loyal, have a cleaning party one night...everyone come in and clean the place. This place could be the ultimate Texas bar. Unfortunately the owner (Dwayne Marshall) seems too cheap and out for a buck.

I have been coming to this bar for years, once your a regular - you will always be a regular - no major changes are ever mad so you never feel like if you were gone for a long time your bar has changed. People who frequent this bar call it "My Bar" because it feels like home. Friendly service, friendly people, it's all around great place to hang out after work, on the late night, or just to stop in, play some pool or darts and just take in the atmosphere.
