Editorial Review for Mi Luna Tapas Restaurant & Bar – by Andrea Loera
The Scene
Perennially packed on weekend nights, this Rice Village staple boasts a varied crowd and simple, Spanish-style decor. Tables interspersed around the spacious u-shaped bar have the best vantage point for the small stage. Coveted high-backed wooden booths are perfect for groups. Service is efficient but often harried.
The Food
The generous menu is dominated by Spanish cuisine and the occasional Moroccan dish (in honor of owner Youssef Nafaa who also runs the popular Mia Bella and Saffron). For the full effect, mix and match plates of varied flavors from the hot and cold tapas selections. Try Serrano ham with Manchego and fresh fruit, flavorful empanadas or large sea scallops grilled with a tomato sherry wine sauce. The Spanish tortilla is like a dense, oniony potato omelet while paella Mi Luna is loaded with seafood, chorizo and chicken-enough for the whole table to taste. Supplement gaps between orders with warm bread and garlicky olive oil dipping sauce.

Insider Tips
ParkingIt's difficult in the Village, particularly during dinner, so spring for the valet.
What to DrinkThe wine list is surprisingly varied and affordable, and always a good accompaniment for a tapas meal. For a twist on traditional sangria, try Mi Luna's signature sangritas (margarita mixed with sangria).
The ExtrasSunday brunch (served 11am-3pm) is popular and includes a wide selection of tapas, an omelet station and bottomless mimosas, champagne and sangria.

Went here for dinner and I had a great time! The food was authentic, but what I liked most about Mi Luna was the vibe and people watching. My friend from New York City said it reminded her of home. Great, diverse crowd and good live music. I'd reccomend this place to all my friends who keep it safe by frequenting the same restaurants over and over again.
Pros: Great ambience, Rice Village location, romantic for two--but still fun with a group
Cons: Loud--not a very conversational place at night

I have been to Mi Luna on several occasions in the past 2 years. Since I work in the medical center, it is a convenient pick for people to meet up after work. However, each time without fail, the food makes at least 2 of our party sick after we leave. I don't know if it is not prepared correctly or if we are not used to this rich food (it is very heavy and rich by the way), but I have stopped going to Mi Luna altogether to avoid the inevitable nausea that follows the meal. They are doing something wrong in the kitchen.
Pros: Good location
Cons: Food makes you sick
