Excellent soul food. The smothered steak doesn't require a knife, a fork is sufficient. Mashed potatoes and gravy are excellent as are the sides. Reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I'll go back.

Good for your soul. Share with a friend.. Walking into Alfreda's is like a time machine. A fabulous, heart-attack-inducing, heaven of a time machine.

I went on a Friday hoping to score some fried catfish ... but the woman ahead of snagged the last bit. Warning: get there early because once it's gone, it's gone. I eyed some oxtail. I'd never had the pleasure. And OH IT WAS A PLEASURE. So were the left overs ... for the next 2 days. No joke. Portions are more than generous - as they should be for the $10-13 lunch price. The mac n cheese, sweet potatoes and dirty rice are MUSTS.

The bread pudding wasn't anything to write home about. The sweet staff & patrons as colorful as the booths are, however something you should write home about - as is the food.

I've yet to try Zydeco ... but Alfreda's passes This Is It in my soul food book.

Authentic Southern Food. I've never been for anything but breakfast, so I can't vouch for anything else, but breakfast alone could keep this place going. The line to get tho the counter to order tells it all. Any place that's frequented by cops and ambulance drivers (for food, not distress calls) is sure to be good. These customers know what to look for in great food away from home so I follow them!

Great Breakfast !. This is a great place for breakfast. One of the best I have had. It's cheap, fast and great. Great service, friendly staff.
