Staff conspicuous by their absence

Released from jail - walked miles. barefoot due to wrong directions from jailers (deliberate) No staff available within the posted hours. Desperate for 50c to call telephone directories and a pencil to write the number.
Experienced nothing but kindness, compassion and 50c and a pen from those waiting to get in. Wealth beyond the dreams of jewels and rubies! Got the stuff and hours later whisked to comfortable resources to plot my revenge for the arrest. Made a donation and read no welcome to ex jailed types as volunteers. The hell with them I want my money back!
THANKS STAR OF HOPE

My mother was in the TLC 18-month program. Before she was in the program she abused rocks
and our family was torn to pieces, a mess for so many years. We thought we'd never see her clean again or or usage would end in her death. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants help.. i visited her there after not seeing her 2 years. i am very proud of my mother. All im saying folks it really really helped her. As a result We now have our mother back. Christian practices.
- Pros: housing learning couseling schooling can leave nice clean
- Cons: you must apply yourself want what you're after
AWSOME!

The people there were great! They knew how to handle spesific situations. They keep you safe! Star of Hope, under any circumstances, will not give anyone your information; evne if they claim to be your lost relative. The food was good. They had christian services almost 3 times a week. Youth groups were also held. It made children feel at home. It was a warm and inviting atmosphere. Help is provided to anyone who needs it. I personally lived there for almost 6 months, and I think it was an awsome experience.

In my recent experience with the Star of Hope Shelter I would not recommend this location to a homeless person in Houston. I would search a little further and use this facility as the last resort. The employees were verbally aggressive and unfriendly and uninformative. I was brushed off with the "policy and procedure" but a copy of the rules could be found, neither were they posted. One employee claimed that she could not take a written message to give to a client, neither could she receive information about the client.
This shelter claims to be trained and experienced in handling the clients needs, but I beg to differ. After talking with outsiders who had lived there in the past and present, I was not given any positive feedback. I experienced the negativity and hopeless atmosphere after bringing a person in for shelter. The people I met were desperately looking forward to finding a different shelter. One woman said that she was not given bus tokens to go on an appointment to find an available shelter because she was not a resident. Another woman of a different race received tokens to go to the same appointment for the same reason.
The client I brought in for shelter was lost and surviving on her own for over six months, suffering with mental challenges. After finding the nearest relative to the woman, I was not allowed to speak with her, I was not given any indication to confirm whether she was still there or not. The client was not verbally given the message that her relatives had been found to reconnect them immediately. I need to read the policy for missing adults in Houston at shelters and with the Houston Police division. I found HPD would not make missing report on the found person. The shelter would not inform the " missing person" that her relatives had been located in Houston and not New Orleans and would not allow me to see her and inform the client of the good news.
I think the Hope should define hostage in their policy.
- Pros: availability, location
- Cons: unprofessional, no compassion, mean spirited staff
