Excellent..
Stopped in for the first time this weekend, and wish I'd have gone here sooner. I got the Merida special combo plate, which among other things included a couple panuchos, and it was great! The portions were also pretty big, and I had to get a to-go box...something I rarely do. Service was above average. The chips were excellent, but the salsa was kinda watery in my opinion...but it still tasted pretty good. The place was nice, albeit a little bit cramped/loud. I'll be back!

Best salsa in town.
Simply put... the finest salsa I have ever tasted. When I first moved to Houston in 1999 after graduating from college, I lived in this area in the heart of Second Ward (East End for those trying to make it sound trendier). I used to go here all the time because it was very affordable and I especially loved their warm salsa and fresh chips. As my career in the medical field began to take off, of course, I moved away and all the while missed this place. Now that this area is starting to experience a "new growth," I decided to rent out a great loft style apartment in the area. I now stop by this place as often as possible. From the mouth-watering Enchiladas Tex-Mex oozing with chili and meat to the Huevos Montulenas with the perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg that allows the yolk to mingle with the peas to the Cochinita Pibil (ambrosially prepared marinated roast pork with pickled onions and refried black beans... woooohhh!). I keep forgetting something though... oh, the extraordinary salsa. Trust me; don't waste your time at Ninfa's. Besides the horrific parking situation there, this place has them beat in the food department hands-down.
