The Scene – Many art spaces in town are somewhat seedy--and lack air-conditioning-but Lawndale's classy facility in the Museum District provides a comfortable environment for visitors to enjoy exhibits. The art deco building, designed by Houston architect Joseph Finger, opened to the public in 1930. Could be so much more, but instead seems to fall into being typical high art which is more focused on the politics of the art seen then with beauty or artistic value. As a result Lawndale shows a lot of bad art. But is worth going to if you are in the neighborhood because occasionally good work does sneak in.
- Pros: nice space
- Cons: under-whelming work

The Lawndale Art Center is a great way to get out of the heat and see some great, local artists. It's free, it's always changing. . . why would you NOT want to go?
