Poor customer service – My friends and I often go to Mia Bella (groups of 5+ people) and generally enjoy the place. Tonight we experienced terrible customer service that was highlighted by being charged $12/glass red wine - unbeknownst to us until our bill came. The same wine was available by the bottle 4 wks ago for approx. $28/bottle. The rationale for the sudden and dramatic switch was simply, "well the bottle is no longer on the menu so we saw fit to charge you by the glass." It would have been nice if the waiter could have told us this up front rather than surprising us with the $90 wine bill. The same wine is available for $10/bottle at Central Market. Thanks Mia Bella. I don't think I'll be coming back.
Great place if you're downtown – We had a great night. The food was very good and service was excellent. Nice romantic mood. Do not sit outside. We could see outside all the bums asking the people outside for food every 5 minutes. This restaurant is walking distance to a lot of bars downtown (Whiskey Bar, M-bar) for after dinner if you're interested.
Consistently Delicious Food – Mia Bella serves up delicious food and what's more, they are consistenly good. There Salmone di Spinaci is flavorful but can be a little on the salty side. The pork ternderloin with currant-sauce adds another dimension to an oft-repeated piece of meat. The whole wheat pasta tortelini with chicken is perfectly seasoned and the accompanying sauce is nice and velvety. The appetizers are great including some terrific calamari dishes. The Mia Bella salad is worth trying if you enjoy a little greens before dinner. The tiramisu is pedestrian at best but some of the other chocolate-based desserts are top notch (chocolate mousse). Wine list is OK, nothing blows you away - but it not pretentious.
I have been to both this location and the one on Lexington. This location is the superior of the two in every fashion. The only reason that this place is not Highly Recommended is that the service can be spotty. It won't ruin your dinner, but you may have to wait for the coffee to show up or the water to get refilled. Interestingly, the busier it is, the better the service - at least in my experience.
Downtown convenience and inventive Italian fare define this longtime favorite. – The Scene
Despite its small size, high ceilings, simple decor (including cheerful black-and-white photos of patrons) and romantic lighting make the main dining room seem cozy. Tables are comfortably spaced and a substantial bar off to one side adds to the seating. Opt for a table on the periphery of the restaurant along the windows. The Preston side offers a view of the water sculpture while the Main Street side affords for some train spotting.
Restaurateur Youssef Nafaa (Mi Luna) infuses the Italian menu with distinct Mediterranean flavors. The eclectic menu features varied appetizers including a grilled calamari dish and a savory mushroom and goat cheese strudel. Thin crust pizzas tempt with a variety of toppings while hearty pasta dishes, including healthy whole wheat pasta with cheese-stuffed meatballs, provide for lunchtime leftovers. Fish, chicken and steak dishes round out the offerings. Expect a varied wine list.
Fabulous – This place is in a great location downtown, accessible by the train. Food is fabulous. The tuna is the best I have had in the city. The service was excellent. Can't say enough great things about Mia Bellas. A must try!
nice surprise – this cozy place is in prime location. a perfect place for dinner if you plan to spend the rest of the night out on the town. we were seated immediately, but the table was so tiny even for 2 people. it was literally a 2 top. i'd have to say this is one of the better italian restaurants in town, and i was quite surprised by the realtively low prices on the menu. The baked rainbow trout is nice to try if you like fish. the seafood lasagna is savory, but only if you have time to spare. we were forewarned that it would take 25-30 minutes, and indeed it did! our server was not a friendly/talkative person, but was efficient.
Try It – Great location downtown and excellent food. This is one of our favorite places to get great Italian food. The prices are very reasonable and it is right off the Main Street rail line. The location is also great for grabbing some food before going to the theatre downtown. Definitely give it a try. Also a great place to people watch from the windows.
Absolutely Fabulous – I attended Mia Bella this weekend for their Sunday brunch and I was more than impressed with the selection and quality of the food. Everything was amazing! I strongly recommend this restaurant!
Good Food, Poor Service – The food is good with nice portions and the atmosphere is nice, but the service was poor. It took 15 minutes before someone waited on us and that was after I asked. Finally, he came and took drink orders, but never came back. I went to the bar to get a tea. Overall, I like the place and hopefully we just had a bad waiter that night.
Fabulous – This is by far, the best restaurant downtown. The
food is always great and plentiful, and the service
friendly. If you haven't been, go.
