In Short – Ever wondered about the group of houses that seem to spring up along the Allen Parkway end of downtown? You know which ones, you driving along, skyscraper, skyscraper, library, whoa, log cabin? One of those smaller, storefront buildings (facing Bagby) is the Heritage Society, a small museum that offers a short introduction to the early history of Texas. Complete with buffalo and longhorn heads on the walls, a Disney-fied reproduction of a general store (the real parts of which actually came from Egypt, Texas) and the inevitable 15-minute video (narrated by our own Ron Stone).

The Extras:
The main point of the museum seems to be a (successful) whetting of your appetite for the guided tours of the houses, which are conducted every 30 minutes, for a fee. If you want the museums free parking, keep a sharp eye out for the parking lot on the right just before you hit downtown.
