What People Are Saying About Birraporetti's

The Scene – Best known as a great pizza place and "a heck of an Irish bar" since the '70s, the operation has shifted gears in the past decade or so, moving upscale with a sleek redesign, a menu upgrade and an attitude adjustment. The downtown site, smack dab in the middle of the Theater District, provides a reliable before-the-curtain dining spot, while the River Oaks location caters to the nearby art-house cinema. – – The Food – A piquant chicken picatta and a fettuccine guismondo, enlivened with tarragon and spinach, are standouts on this expansive menu.…

Bad food and terrible service
by blueviolin
I have been to Birraporetti's many times because it's one of the few places that's open late. I go to the theater and symphony often and it is pretty convenient. The hours are the best thing about this place.
The food is usually below average. The entrees are bland. Appetizers are pretty tasteless. Waiters are ok. But don not sit at the bar. Last time I sat there I got a salad with a bug right on top in plain sight. The waiter tried to convince me that it was parsley. Really? He was pretty rude about it and once he admitted it WAS A BUG he didn't even offer a free meal replacement. I still had to pay for it.
If you can avoid this restaurant , you should. Now there are more places open up late I think and the food and service are way better.
Awful for birthdays
by Mb2923
I really hate giving this place such a low rating, as I have been a frequent patron of it for my birthdays for many years. We dined here and upon making our reservation I told them of my special event. The receptionist never once asked if I had a birthday cake, of which I did and a very small one at that. We had 5 in our party and the server was quite hospitable. We were under the impression that she would sing happy birthday, but the restaurant did nothing (they usually do). The food was good as usual. But the real kicker came when we got the bill. Because of us bringing in this tiny little cake, we were charged a "cake fee" of $20.00. Had we been told this fee would be added, we would have left the **** thing at home. When I called the manager, he was quite rude and argumentative and stated that as long as he had been working there, this fee was in effect. He stated that had we fussed in the restaurant, he would have taken it off (my Mom brought it up to the waitress and I believe expressed her distaste but was ignored and told its company policy). The manager did give a compensation for a later date, but the damage was done and Birraporetti's managed to help ruin my birthday. They used to have 3 locations and now only have one. Fraudulent activities like this cake fee and making customers feel at fault for not disclosing they have a birthday cake are probably some of the factors in why the other 2 locations are no more.
- Pros: Good food, atmosphere
- Cons: DO NOT BRING CAKES!
Such a disappointment

We dined here for Valentine's Day before seeing a show. It was not a good experience. They decided they would not offer wines by the glass for that evening, such a strange thing to do for a special occasion. When everyone at the table likes a different type of wine, what are you supposed to do? We were in the downstairs room, it smelled like mildew. They piped in some kind of 50's rock and roll music. It was very loud and hard to talk over. Not exactly appropriate for Valentines Day. The food was average at best. They had doubled their prices for the evening as well. I understand having a set menu for special days, but this was ridiculous! We will never dine here again. I would like to end on a positive note, since it was not their fault. The waitstaff was very good. They worked very hard.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Everything else
Too pricy for the food quality

Great location for before a show, but it is over priced and the food is just awful. I could have made better pasta at home, oh wait, I have.
- Pros: Great location for before a show
- Cons: food, price, parking,
Great Food AWFUL Service
by spruitt
We had just come from the alley theatre on Valentine's day, and we were famished, so we headed to Birraporettis for dinner where we had reservations. We were an hour early from our reservation time but the hostess was nice enough to seat us right away. Our server was named JAMIE an older bald gentleman w/ a go-t and black rimmed glasses. To start we both ordered Peroni's and asked for an order of calamari. He brought my husband his Peroni (italian beer) but didn't bring me the one I ordered, and preceded to tell me that I shook my head when he asked what I wanted, then asked if we wanted to start w/an appetizer when we already asked for calamari!! We were very insulted. So then we finally get our calamari (20 min later) & he tried 2 explain that the theatre crowd just let out not even thinking that we were or could be part of that crowd and that he was confused by the menu which only had 9 dinners on it, oh and he only had 4 tables!!! After we ate the calamari he cleared off the table including my husband's silverware so we had 2 share silverware 2 eat our salads! In the meantime the tables around us were getting great service their drinks and salads are coming out @ much faster pace. I wanted a 2nd beer which I never got from Jamie so I had 2 go 2 the bar 2 get one, and Iwhen I asked Jamie for a glass and he retrieved a used glass w/ an inch of water in the bottom of it. After we were finished eating we had 2 wait another 20 minutes to get our bill and another 10 minutes to get a to go box. All in all we were there for nearly 2 hours due to Jamie's subpar service.
- Pros: Authentic Italian Food
- Cons: Horrible Servers
