At Okra, one doesn't have a drinking problem; one has a drinking solution. That's because Okra — named for the collective of independent restaurant and bar owners that manages it — donates 100 percent of its proceeds to local charities. The bar is testament to its founders' dedication to preserving historic Houston. The owners converted the old Red Cat Jazz Cafe into one gigantic open space, with mismatched furniture surrounding a central bar and the beautiful, vaulted skylight serving as natural décor. A simple menu with bar offerings that are serviceable for spirits snobs and after-work crowds alike makes it easy to feel okay about drinking at Okra.
