I have been a member of The Houstonian for 15 years. The key to Trellis is to find out who the good technicians are. If you get a really good one, there is no match in the city. Get a bad one, and you will be ripped off. It's that simple. I have friends who go (and don't ask me to tell them who is good) and they condemn the place and i don't blame them. Personally, i never get a massage there; there is much better elsewhere. The environment is great, relaxing, and peaceful, except when there is a group and they drink and it's like happy hour. If you go, chose the beginning of the week, in the morning for a quiet experience. Also, it totally annoys me when you call, and the operator asks, "How may i book your appointment?" That just doesn't make sense! Book it nicely? Quickly? ugh.
Their regular massage was outstanding, their prenatal massage not so much and their pedicure was much to be desired. It's a very calming spa and I would definitely go back for their massage and perhaps try other services.
Great Girlfriend's Day Out.
Trellis spa offers it all! Arrive about an hour before your appointment is schedule to take advantage of all of the wonderful amenities offered to anyone getting a service done there.
Check-in upstairs first. After doing this, the staff will find you wherever you are within the spa when it is time for your appointment, so you can relax and not worry about time. You and your girlfriend or you and your spouse can enjoy the large upstairs room that offers light snacks, a roaring fireplace and hot neck packs. Downstairs off of the locker room is the steamroom, mineral whirlpool bath and rainfall shower to enjoy with girlfriend or alone.
If you want complete silence prior to your appointment or afterwards, utilize the upstairs tranquility room with roaring fireplace, warm blankets and chase lounges set up in front of the fireplace.
My facial from Afshwan was amazing and came with a neck and arm massage, too! Wow, what a great experience at Trellis!
Best FACIALIST!.
Trellis Spa is GREAT!
They have the BEST FACIALIST (RosaLinda)!
She is awesome and truly takes care of ME! She is located at the Trellis Spa @ the Houstonian Hotel and even though I have to drive to get to her....it is WELL WORTH IT!
All of the staff at the Spa that I have had to deal with are nice, professional & courtious. I wish I could afford to go all the time!!!
I Love This Place!.
If you're looking for the best "Body Treatment Specialist" in town, then give Magdalena "Magda" Charles a call. She's currently located at Trellis Spa at the Houstonian.
I have been going to Magda for well over 5 years and I can honestly say tha I have not found someone that can top her services.
I started going to her for massages and I haven't gone to anyone else since finding her. She truly knows what she's doing and always knows where my body needs the most work. I always recommend her to anyone I know.
I also visit her for her body treatments. I love the exfoliation treatments and body wraps that she gives. I usually do the body wraps a couple of times a year and I always see a dramatic difference in my skin. But my favorite is the exfoliation treatment. . .my skin always glows after it.
Having tried various "spas" around town, I can say that Magda's positive attitude, professionalism and caring empathy for her clients make her one of the best, if not THE best in Houston!
Terrible experience.
I love going to the spa and I love trying new places. I was given a gift certificate to Trellis Spa in the Houstonian for my birthday so I decided to check it out. It was a terrible experience. While the front desk and concierge upstairs were both very nice, the aesthetician was abrubt, rude and condescending. There was nothing calming, nurturing or soothing about her personality at all. She performed the facial like she was washing dishes, very routine. At one point she was reading a magazine or doing paperwork as I could hear the pages being turned. Another time she left the room for an extended period of time. She did not do a head, neck or shoulder massage - standard fare for a facial in a nice spa.
The cost was another turnoff - $120 for a 40 minute facial (billed as 60 minutes).
Although the spa was beautiful, the cost and poor service was a turn off that will prevent me from returning. I was planning to buy a gift certificate for my mom for Mother's Day on the way out. Needless to say, I passed on that.
Sorry to see Service Declining. I have been going to the Trellis since it was a little cottage house next to the hotel - when they opened the new facility (several years ago) I was so impressed and excited. It's a beautiful facility with sauna, whirlpool tub, pool, soft fluffy robes and all the little amentities. In the last year however I have seen it start to go downhill as they make obvious cutbacks. Previously they use to provide travel size shampoo, soap, etc. in the shower area - not they put everything into big dispensers -which I woud be okay with but the products were so watered down it was ridiculous - I couldn't get a lather from the shampoo or soap. 1/2 the time the shower's area's haven't been cleaned up from the last person - towls on the floors, etc. The service use to be impeccable but that has changed. If they are going to cut costs by cutting service then they need to adjust their pricing as well - a massage is $110 min. for 50 min. - that hasn't changed over the years but their service sure has! Kudos to Jennifer, Shon and Magda - the three quality massage therapists who have continue to provide a great massage. I wish they would go back to making the quality of the experience their focus instead of looking for ways to save penny's - they are going to push away their long standing customer base. I've talked to several friends who are no longer going because they have been disappointed the last few times and the competition has made their places more inviting. I hope the old Trellis that offered top notch service makes a come back.
Not what I expected. The massage was OK, definetly not worth the money. The level of the service does not match the atmosphere.
Great Facial, Facilities. I got the Active Pureness facial and really enjoyed it. The steam room and whirlpool bath are wonderful to enjoy before your appointment. My facialist Maria was very skilled- my face is so soft and clean. It wasn't the most relaxing facial I've ever had, but the results were there afterwards.
Horrible Customer Service. I am a member at the Houstonian and recently called to book treatments for myself and my husband. Two hours before the treatment time they called my husband and cancelled b/c the therapist had gone home sick. When I called to inquire in more detail they were rude and uninformed. They told me I was wrong and made me feel like an idiot. I love the Houstonian and until recently would've recommended Trellis to everyone. What a disappointment!
